It appears the HVR-1600 may support QAM, see:
http://www.engadgethd.com/2007/05/18/hau...uner-card/

As for Comcast, the HDHomerun will receive a bunch of QAM channels on the system. I assume with the proper HVR-1600 drivers, it too will be able to tune unencrypted Comcast QAM digital channels.

ATSC is over the air HD channels, it gets that
QAM is the modulation scheme (encoding) for digital cable, but there is also encryption, or channels that the box needs to do something special to decrypt (key and a decrypter), channels without encryption are known as "in the clear" and the 1600 will be able to get those Smile

but not encrypted channels, you will need a cablecard to record those.... and you need a system certified by cablelabs to get a cablecard installed. oh and you have to run Vista... yeah it sucks

no, since digital done not imply HD, it just means that the channel is transmitted digitally, not in analog. you will need something with a digital tuner to get said digital channels, like an STB Smile

yanno sometimes I just want to hit something.

Yes I meant getting digital service along with the digital box from comcast. What comes out of there and to the tv is what I am trying to get at. I am assuming that would be analog (composite, s-video, component etc) to the tv, right ?

Yes, the digital box decompresses the signal and sends out analog to the tv.
you could hook up the output of the stb to your tuner card and record through there.

sorry, I didnt mean to upset you, just trying to be funny, also it is hard to say exactly what connections you will have without knowing the exact set top box you will have, but generally you will probably have a coax output and a composite output, possibly you might get lucky and have a svideo output. another thing you might look for is a serial port which you can change channels through, it may be enabled, the motorola SCT2xxx series are well known and easy to change channels on over serial

Called my favorite relative and they are going to find out what the brand and model is of the box.

I wonder though if I would be able to get enough signal out of the digital box for 2 pvr150's that I have.
