I just want to clarify if it wasnt clear, I want the OTA HD channels. Also, do I need to have an EPG for them? If do, in Zap2it (which I am so scared is closing) do I select the DT channels? Or can they be digital but not HD?

Yes, thats why I said you need to have selected the "AVerMedia M780" not "AVerMedia M780 (QAM)". The second can only be used for digital cable.

No, you dont have to. You can manually add some channels if you want, then do the 'map digital channels to epg channels' step and map the channels found to these you created.

I dont really know what zap2it carries in this respect. I'm not that familiar with which channels you have in the US.

Sub, I'm stumped... how do I manually scan without the EPG set, it gives me an error if the EPG is set to none for the second tuner. BTW, the first tuner i have to Software Recording Pluging and use for cable analog plugged straigt from the wall.

Set the EPG to 'none'. Hit the 'Add' button and create a couple of channels with any old names, then hit the 'map digital channels to EPG channels' button and it should scan for channels. After it finishes scanning, click the tuning request column next to the channels you created and select the channel it found during the scan.

If the 'add' button isnt enabled, ok out of the config app so it saves the capture source, then go back in.

I dont really know anything about that plugin, so not sure if it causes any complications or not.

I meant Direct Recording Plugin (not software)... I'm trying now what you said.

Manually adding the channel allowed me to create the place holders, but the scanning doesnt find anything. And yet the crappy Aver Media Center does. I know I'm missing something that is specific to the Avermedia M780. Or to my setup.

Just want the OTA HD on gbpvr to work. I thought that was QAM, but now I understand QAM doesn't mean HD, it's an encryption of some sorts for broadcasters over the wire, I imagine.

I dont know if I'll be able to help or not, but reproduce the scan, then zip and attach the config.exe.log and config.exe-native.log.

Is the M780 the AVerTV Combo PCIe card shown here?
http://www.aver.com/mpd/combopcie_mce.html

I was looking at getting one of these, but just wanted to make sure it is the same card. Or should I stick with Hauppauge and get the HVR-1800?
