yea, still searching for an 'easy' way and faster...so many extra steps..[demux/mux] and the assoc. file space..
wishing they'd make the -genpts work on mencoder, but till then ffmpeg can work..i hope it's in the works at least for mencoder..badly needed..
ffmpeg is very nice at handling bad files, timelines,etc.. and usually correcting them...

there's already a new comskip plugin for tweaking the cuts visually with remote..Big Grin

added benefit, with mencoder/ffmpeg, you can watch the currently encoding file..Smile

also, when using mencoder, try the HR-seek [hi-res seek] option, makes better edits, tho a bit slower..

Is there a spec on how to use ffmpeg for cutting?

yea, basiclly it was using the start/stop times for each segment..
i don't think there's a file format to feed it all in, the cmd line has to be used..
iirc, the drawback was resolution, like using seconds instead of frames or similar.

still was accurate enough viewer wise..[actually fractions of seconds resolution]

ive been looking...Smile
will let ya know when i find it..others are still using it...really easy to do a single cut as-is..just gotta remember how they did multi's...

or you can always just pipe mencoder into ffmpeg...Smile
[i'm pretty sure mencoder can't pipe out, but an ext. util can make it happen]
wmkfifo.exe
works great, and ffmpeg shouldn't add much cpu time just generating timestamps and remuxing..and can still use the hr_seek and .edl files with mencoder..Big Grin

Wouldnt you do it the other way around? First ffmpeg to repair all problems and the mencoder for the cutting?
This because mencoder does deliver good output when working on an error free input

tried it and doesn't work..
really need the cuts adjusted to gop boundaries..[keyframes]
otherwise the cuts are 'dirty', not knowing of previous frame to construct current one...[blocky artifacts]
couldn't use -hr-edl-seek without re-encoding video...chokes..worked ok without -hr-edl-seek, but still looked bad..[blocks]

mencoder alone would be great if the .edl were so adjusted to keyframes..Smile

if only mpegstreamclip had cmdline options...it adjust a lot of stuff for perfect edits on any frame..
quite a few gui tools can do it, but no cmdline stuff..Sad

mencoder works as is, if you use -hr-edl-seek, and re-encode video...Big Grin
perfect 'noiseless' cuts every time..

if you have a bad timeline you need to 'fix', use -forceidx on mencoder cmd line with -mpegopts format=dvd, tsaf ..Smile

Could you post a complete cmd line example for fixing and cutting using mencoder so other people can quickly copy and use?
