I'm embarrassed to ask, but what do you use to play that clip? I tried WMP but it didn't work. Perhaps I need the right decoder.

The PCH of course via GB-PVR! (3% CPU by the way on this router CPU) but I only seem to get the right audio channel (I'm running beta firmware so I am not worrying about this)

On my PC I don't have all the codecs and splitters required for DirectShow and I might not have the right TS parser in GBPVR either probably as these devices go out there will be more guides to all of this. It does push both mplayer and vlc.

You could use mpc - video decoder, Cyberlink h264 decoder, ffdshow...

Probably best to download the latest Media Player Classic - HomeCinema
it comes iwth MPC- Video decoder.

edit- Clip plays fine with powerdvd, messes up with mpc-hc

BTW i'm using 2600xt p4 2.4ghz
P4 2.4b Northwood - 1 Gig RAM - PVR 150 - Sapphire 2600XT AGP - HDA X-Mystique 7.1 Dolby Digital Live -> Samsung HT - USB-UIRT, USB-> 2 Playstation Controller Adaptors - NEC ND-3550A Burner

I suspect several people that get one of these will find they need a new CPU or graphics card. Playback of highdef H.264 can be pretty hard on machines.

Requirements say "Dual Core" which a Pentium D is, but for playback, they specify a "fast processor" - what exactly is a "fast processor".

Also, are the CPU requirements any different if you will be playing back via PCH? Does GBPVR do any transcoding to send these TS files to the PCH? If not, I would think that most of the work would be on the other end.

I got the clip to play with my rig with MPC with ffdshow and the haali splitter. About 65% on my CPU (see sig) This is just on my PC LCD though and not through the dvi output. I really don't have a clue as to what that would do since I don't have a HD tv nearby to test on.

I havnt done enough playing around with the files produced by the HD-PVR to give you a definitive answer, but as a useful comparison my previous AMD X2 4400+ couldnt play our 1080i/720p DVB-T H.264 channels smoothly, which are simlar to the files produced by the HD-PVR. Intel Core 2 Duo processors do alright on the same files.

If you're going to be viewing from a PCH, then you dont need to worry so much about the CPU.

How did you set that up? I only have nVidia decoder - which apparently doesn't work since I get a few seconds of garbage w/ VLC & then VLC crashed.

I downloaded ffdshow, but when I looked for "haali splitter", I got the "matroska splitter" is that the same thing?

If so, is there anything I need to do besides run the setup programs for those codecs?

You can download the Arcsoft Total Media Theatre intro version from http://www.arcsoft.com/products/totalmediatheatre/ and set the H.264 codec to Arcsoft in GBPVR. The decoder can continue to be used by GBPVR after the trial has expired.

That worked for me too. It took about 55-60% of my AMD 4600 on my desktop PC and put my AMD 2500, the CPU in my HTPC, at 100%.

I feel a Popcorn Hour purchase coming on...

VLC won't play it for me either. Try mpc. I got the splitter in one of the codec packs (k-lite I think). I just installed them and that was it. MPC starts them and they show in the tray when playing that clip.
