When I started Hip for the first time, I had selected MCE as the remote and MCE as the IR Output as well. Is that correct? There is no mention of what to set the IR Output to in the wiki so I assumed it to be MCE as well.

One thing I've always wondered in the back of my mind, I use the hipsend.exe to set #0 to #9 in the Alternate Input section. For the primary command, do I use the MCE remote or my STB remote in the Add/Edit IR Command window?

In any case, once I've used the hipsend.exe to enter #0 to #9 , the Test IR function does not change the channel on my STB though.

I'll fully remove HIP and re-install it again. This time, I'll record my setup step-by-step and post it here for review. Hopefully you guys can help to catch my mistake/s. I can't perform a self-verification anymore.Smile

To zed, yes, I noticed that Hipsend doesn't like it if Hip is not running. Smile

the codes you learn in the last box ir codes are the ones from your set top box
hip needs to know what your set top box want to receive

before you even start with the hip send part
learn the code from your set top box then test them if this does not work then no point in anything going into alternate input

three words

IR server suite. Its just plain better... believe me, i tried hip for a long time, it works, but its a pain in the arse + its learning facilities seem to be inferior. I've had 100's of recordings with IR server suite with 99% accuracy, with HIP i was lucky if it was 50%.

I've not got the chance to work on my PC yesterday and will try getting Hip to learn the codes form my STB's remote and test the learnt IR commands. If that does not work, I've got another IR emitter already ordered.
If that does not work, I'll try the IR server suite.
Will post updates.

Finally got a chance to work on my PC again.

Tried to just learn the codes from my STB's remote and test the Ir command. Seems to be getting inconsistent results. Managed to get the STB to accept the signal as I can see the LED on the STB blinked but it is not repeatable. I re-learning the code by holding the key down for both short and long brust. Nothing seems to work consistently too.

Also found out that the IR 1 output on my transceiver is not working. If I unplug the emitter from IR2 output and plug it back into IR1 and back again, it will not again. The IR outputs seems to be intermittent.

I had another STB and I hooked it up just for testing the IR. I was able to get the other STB to accept IR commands from the Test IR. The emitter has to be about a couple of inches infront of it and for multiple sending, I had to click the send with a couple of secs in between each send.

Anyways, I think I've got a possible transceiver issue and maybe the STB is very fussy about how it receives it's IR signal as well.

Just for sanity, use my TV's remote to learn one of the buttons and it worked like a charm. DTV does not seems to want to make things easy for us. Probably not in their best interest, probably that's why.

Am I on the right track in my troubleshooting?

yeah pretty much if you cant get that part working well then no point going to next step
(make sure you have good batteries in your remote before learning the codes)

also you could would try server suite (i haven't used it but others seem to recommend it)
no harm in having a look might have better luck with learning the tricky codes

Tried out IR server suite just for the heck of it. Surprise, surprise! After learning the 0-9 buttons from my STB remote, the test went very well. Using the test, I was able to get the STB to accept the IR signals. But it does confirmed that the IR_1 port on the transceiver is defective. Hopefully Hauppauge will replace it.
Even though the test works, I was still not able to change the channel on the STB using the MCE remote. Have not figured out that part yet.
EDIT-----> As I'm writing this, the PVRX2 hung. The screen just froze. Had to kill the app and restart. This has been happing pretty often today. Not sure what's going on. BUT!!!! Since I had to restart PVRX2, I tried the MCE remote again and viola! it works! Finally! I can change channels on the STB using the MCE remote! What joy and relive!
The timing of the button press is still very fussy though. I had to press the buttons slowly but not too slow.
Oh boy, PVRX2 hung again!Sad
