You should be able to run 1024x768 over the svhs, which should look better.

Ah, I see . . . I was going by a post earlier in this thread where they said "By all means use the S-video output to the TV. Also, set your video card resolution to 720X480 for NTSC (US) TV. The windows desktop will be unuseable, but GBPVR and the video will look fine."

I'll play further tomorrow . . . I got Power DVD going but it's late and I don't want to rummage around looking for the SVHS and audio cables tongiht.

THANKS for everything!

I have always prefered 1024x768 over s-video, espcially if you can get the overscan and all properly setup. If you set the icons to large and fonts to large, the desktop is somewhat useable.

Well this has been FUN!

OK, I installed the PVR-150 first thing this morning and when I booted up I noticed that I didn't have the NVideo icon in my system tray? I could get to it from control panel / display though so I forged on.

I installed the Haupaugge drivers and everything came up nicely and I had TV and the basic remote functions worked. I made a few recordings and then as per a suggestion earlier in the thread I tried to play some of the recordings in Windows Media Player and that dog gone WMP is giving me an "Internal Program Error" and exiting right out! The misnerablesonsofa . . . GRRR!

I've spent a fair amount of time trying to trouble shoot that on M$ web site and other forums and nothing seems to help. Looks like it's time for reloading Windows again and I'm just not up to it today. In fact I'll probably just wait till the new drive arrives before I go through all the reloading again.

I guess to pass some time till then I'll give MythTV a try . . .

I'll post back when the new drive arrives and I get the time/courage to start into this again.

I just don't get it. I have that board, and the other stuff in my sig. I just loaded xp home, the latest 150 driver pack from the shspvr site and I was up with the wintv set up in minutes. From there, gbpvr is a straight install as long as you have the correct stuff like .net installed. (see the survival guide). It just should not be hard to get up and running. I would start slow and get the system working, then try the codecs/ special drivers one at a time to tweak it to where you want it.

Yeah, I dunno what it is . . . here lately nothing has went easily for me!

I tried Mythbuntu and Knoppmyth tonight . . . OMG! They ask all kinds of questions that I have NO idea how to answer and there's NO in program help available! I have a book on Myth somewhere but didn't take the time to run it down.

I hunkered down and reloaded Windows and the MB drivers tonight and that darn Windows Media Player is now back functioning. I have Power DVD Loaded too and it's behaving too.

I'm off to download the PVR-150 software . . . wish me luck!

Good luck indeed. I had a lot of trouble with the pvr150 a looong time ago, but near the end of the time I had it the drivers were great and all my issues had been ironed out. I agree with soccerdad. Make sure you have a good solid system before you go any further. And be wary of adding in tone of different codecs or codec packs. You can easily hose your system. Think less is better. I for one only load up ffdshow, ac3 filter, and gabest universal open source mpeg2 decoder to start with.

OK, got the PVR-150 software downloaded and installed and everything works fine. I could even play a recorded file with Windows Media Player!

I'll do the PVR-150 registry hack tomorrow and install the dot net 2.0 frame work and then give GBPVR a go tomorrow!

The reg hack is to deal with a timestamp issue - do a search for timestamp and you'll run across it.
