Yes, GB-PVR is not 'it just works' software. It's much too powerful, flexible and free to just work out of the box (if there were a box). It can do things no other similar software can do. It depends on third-party software pieces that can't simply be included due to licensing restrictions. It can be customized left, right and backwards to do what you want it to do. I haven't even gotten it to work yet (partly because I've been unwilling to build an adequate machine to run it), but I can sense the power of it.
If you want something that 'just works', I suggest BeyondTV4. It's a pre-packaged application, and pretty much only does what SnapStream wants it to do, but it does work from the moment you install it. You get 30 days for free, and it's only $70 or so after that; that $70 gets you their EPG (Electronic Program Guide) as well.
is there really know one who can tell me how to 'add this to my bda.ini file' ? that would at least allow me to choose my tuner card from the setup and give myself a chance to make this software work i think.
no one on the wintv forums seems to be able to tell me how to watch clear qam yet either.
In your "c:\program files\devnz\gbpvr" directory there is a text file called "bda.ini". Open it in a text editor like Notepad.exe, and paste the new entry at the bottom.
When you setup your capture source, set the EPG Source to the "DVB EPG" option. This wont get you TV listings, or good channel names, but its easier to setup. Alternatively, go pay the $20 for a SchedulesDirect subscription, and use that EPG Source option - which will give you real channel names, and 14 days worth of tv listings.
you are the only person that seems to be willing to help me on either this site or the hauppauge site. i'll go try this while i'm watching the vikes, not on hd . hopefully that changes by next week.
sub i finally have a 2250 to choose from, so now i'm going to go back and start playing around with the mpeg-2 options since you mentioned they could give me trouble too. thanks for hanging with me.
alright, i finally have this software doing something. it's scanning 68 channels right now, but i've yet to see anything viewable in the upper right corner of the same window, so i'm hoping that isn't a bad sign, but assuming it is.
