Installing 1.3.7 fails (MSI*.tmp using all cpu)

Tried the corrected reg key as mentioned by bgowland but still won't install, but got a slightly different error message.

The registry import you included is for Safe Mode with Networking.

The line...

Code:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SafeBoot\Network\MSIServer]

should be...

Code:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SafeBoot\Minimal\MSIServer]

for starting in 'pure' Safe Mode.

Aha - thanx Brian!! It actually needs both entries - sometime I log on to the network just to get to the internet or other shares.

Chaos - delete everything you can in your temp file:
C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\YOUR CURRENT LOGON NAME\LOCAL SETTINGS\Temp

Also, get rid of what you can in the Windows\Temp folder.

Then try again.

Hi again, have had a pig of a time :-(

As it stands atm my system is now back to SP2 status, SP3 was removed to try and see if the install would work with SP2, but it didn't. Now I can't re-install SP3. Have seen a problem with the SP3 install when it gets to 'Running processes before install'. fixcss.exe grabs most of the cpu and stops any further progress. Also tried in safe mode, but ...

MSI installer 4.5 doesn't seem to be available for XP Pro 32 bit afaics unless I install i.e. the server version? Suggestions on this please.

I really appreciate you guys trying to get me back on course, it might end up with me doing a xp re-install and update, though that will be the extreme last resort.
