I seem to have a similar problem to soch, although in my case I can see the ArcSoft decoders in the GB-PVR config Playback tab. (On the other hand, I haven't found an ASVid.ax file on my system.)

I can view and record from my HD-PVR with ArcSoft TME, and I can play back the recordings with vlc. However:
  • Live TV in GB-PVR shows a blank screen with no audio.
  • Playing back the TME recordings in GB-PVR shows a blank screen with correct audio.
  • Recording in GB-PVR creates zero-length .TS files.
  • Playing back MPEG files in GB-PVR works fine.

I'm using 1.3.11 with the patches from the Survival Guide (hopefully I installed them correctly). GB-PVR Live TV does seem to be accessing the HD-PVR, because TME later complains that “the device is not available” (until I reboot the HD-PVR).

Here are my log files - any ideas?

I registered all the .ax files under the codec directory of TME. Now I can see the arcsoft decoders in the gbpvr config. But still see blank screen. For some reason I was able to see the livetv once or twice, somehow. Now I don't remember how that happened.

But now I can't make the arcsoftware to run as the 1212 driver is not working properly (code 10). I re-installed the 1212 software & it started working. But as soon as I started gbpvr the 1212 driver stopped again. This is the 3rd time I will be re-installing 1212 software. I de-registered all the .ax files and that didn't help either. I am inclining to un-install gbpvr as I am unable to make it work with 1212 hd pvr.

I am going to use the 1212 bundled software as it is. Will wait till MS adds 1212 to it's hardware list in media center for Vista.

Yes it was. If you want to post your logs showing an attempt with that configuration, it might give us an idea why it isn't working.

It looks like it's failing to connect the pins on the device:

Code:
2009-04-13 21:53:04.410    VERBOSE    Adding capture filter: Hauppauge HD PVR Capture Device
2009-04-13 21:53:04.419    ERROR    ConnectFilters:Failed(2)
2009-04-13 21:53:04.434    VERBOSE    Adding encoder filter: Hauppauge HD PVR Encoder
2009-04-13 21:53:04.436    ERROR    ConnectFilters:Failed(2)

I'm not sure why though.

Do these settings look ok?

Logs attached.

I copied the audio & video .ax files to system32 as well as registered them. When I clicked on the ... for the audio settings I got some dll missing errors. So I copied those DLLs also to the system32 dir (mostly related to MagCore & MagUI dlls).

Thanks whurlston for looking at my log files. I simply can't get past the ConnectFilters:Failed(2) message. Are there some kind of debug messages that can be turned on to see why it fails to connect?

Background note: in dozens of attempts to get this to work with different settings over the last 2 weeks, there was one time when everything worked for about 5 minutes, and I've never been able to reproduce it since then. It's quite baffling.

Another question: I noticed that the ArcSoft video decoder properties dialog (when I launch it from config) shows version 2.25.82.43 X86, dated April 21, 2008. Can anyone confirm that this is the "old ArcSoft" decoder that allows 3rd-party applications? Maybe I have a permissions problem?

soch, it looks like you are having the same issue:

Code:
2009-04-14 16:00:20.189    VERBOSE    Adding capture filter: Hauppauge HD PVR Capture Device
2009-04-14 16:00:20.196    ERROR    ConnectFilters:Failed(2)
2009-04-14 16:00:20.201    VERBOSE    Adding encoder filter: Hauppauge HD PVR Encoder
2009-04-14 16:00:20.202    ERROR    ConnectFilters:Failed(2)

I actually removed all ArcSoft software from my systems so I can't verify the filter versions at the moment. I can look into it later this week if sub doesn't get to it before then. April 2008 should work though.

I believe those ConnectFilters:Failed(2) messages are normal....at any rate, I also have them in my log and everything works fine.

I can't help with playback...I use a PCH...
