We are going to get flooding rains tomorrow and Wednesday!
This really is good news in many ways. I hope this keeps the cablecard industry alive longer. No doubt MS is happy as it just may boost sales of W7 for Media Center.

actually MS probably doesn't like it... until this news cablecard tuners were useless for anything besides media center, now third parties can get in on the act. that said I still have a strong belief that very few shows will be tagged "copyfreely", particularly once content providers (part of the Empire along with microsoft and the cable companies) get wind of cablecard tuners being used by us in the Rebel Alliance. hopefully this will be helpful to someone though; however what we can hope for is that this might open enough of a chink in the armor that enterprising hackers can exploit it and get at the protected streams too.

The whole thing is really frustrating though, it's not as if any of this will stop the real pirates from recording shows and uploading them to sharing sites, all it does is hassle legitimate customers who just want to watch and record the content they've paid to receive.

My solution of course remains to simply use an antenna and make do with what I get that way... if the cable companies and premium content providers want to make their paid-for offerings too hard for me to use, then I just won't use them.
