NextPVR always records .ts files.

If you click live tv, the correct behaviour is to see it. If you post your logs we'll see if any reason stands out for why it's not working.

I only asked you to check the recording to see if the problem was with the capture side or the playback side. It's sounding like the problem is the playback side, ie decoders etc. The logs should tell us more.

You need to zip the logs immediately after an attempt to view live tv, so that the logs show the attempt.

I can see your logs directory is set to C:\Temp. Does that directory exist?

I really hope this works.

When the screen goes black (well, the NextPVR window goes black), I cant get to anything. i have no choice but to exit and go back in to get the logs (but the software continues to record which is kinda cool). let me know if you can get anything out of this ...

At this point, believe it or not, it really doesent matter to me if I can watch while recording. honestly, once the file is recorded, I load it into some software to remove commercials then stream it at a later date through Plex.

What REALLY matters is, I want to make sure that I am getting the BEST possible quality recordings. The file sizes are kind of small compared to the bundled software that came with it, so, it is making me think that the bit rate or resolution is lower.

I found the config.xml file and have been going through the documentation, but, it is a little confusing. Any tips on what to change to make sure I am getting the max resolution?

I apologize for being such a pain in the a$* here.......thanks again for all of the help Smile

With an HDPVR, you always get the same resolution as the source. ie, you feed it 720p, then you get 720p. You feed it 1080i, then you get 1080i. The only thing you really can control is the bitrate.

The only thing that really stood out was your 'audio renderer' setting. I'd try setting that back to default. You've got it set to "Speakers (2- High Definition Au" which causes issues for some users.

I don't use a set top box and I can't be sure exactly what is happening and I apologise if I have missed the point. Simply stated, NextPVR is two processes ... 1) The NextPVR Recording Service runs continuously in the background. It is this process that connects to the HDPVR and transfers data to the hard drive to create a recording in a .ts file ... 2) The NextPVR frontend program. This is the program that you use to watch recordings, view Live TV and change settings. The NextPVR frontend connects to the Recording Service when you watch Live TV. The Recording Service passes data from the HDPVR to the NextPVR frontend when you watch Live TV.

The settop box is, of course, unaware of all this and images itself to be connected to a television and expects that the television can display only one channel at a time. When the Recording Service wants to make a recording, it issues IR commands, via the HDPVR, to the settop box and the box sends a video stream for that channel to the HDPVR and the HDPVR sends the video stream to the Recording Service. It may be that attempts to watch Live TV while the Recording Service is recording do not go well because the settop box is only able to send the video stream for one channel at a time to the HDPVR.

NextPVR is rather more clever when it is connected to a tuner. For example, I use only over the air terrestrial broadcasts and I have several tuners in my computer. All of the tuners are connected to the same aerial and receive the same channels. NextPVR is able to make decisions about which tuner to use for this or that recording and for this or that Live TV session (I can run the NextPVR frontend program on more than one computer simultaneously). Digital TV broadcasts received by a tuner are muxed and more than one channel is broadcast on a single frequency. NextPVR is able to record shows from multiple channels using a single tuner when all of the channels are on the same frequency (aka ... mux).

In short, I can record twenty or more channels simultaneously using my eight tuners.

I really have a lot to learn about how this all works Sad I am so sorry.....

Then maybe I need to adjust the bitrate.

Here is what I have noticed. When I record using the software that came with the PVR, the recordings are bigger (not that I particularly like this part, but, it shows me something else is going on) and the video is much MUCH smoother. not as pixelated.

So, with that said, when I am in the config.xml, I am seeing many different entries that have a bitrate setting. Do you happen to know which one I should be concerned with changing ?
