If you can post the logs showing a scan one a single frequency with these incorrectly identified as MPEG2 channels, I'll check it out. Include that mon.txt.

Attached are logs from 2 single-frequencies scans, with a 1 minute scantime specified in ScanCollectionMS.
For 546MHz it finds 3 HD-channels as expected, but all 3 as unknown, and not as "SVT1 HD","Das Erste HD" and "NDR HD" as it should.
For 578MHz the 5 expected channels are detected, with correct names, but as MPEG2. Strange thing; the scanning is finished as soon as the channels are detected as MPEG2, so the scanning doesn't continue for the specified 1 minute.

It seems that no matter what I do, on some frequencies channels are detected as H.264 but unknown channel names, and on other frequencies channels are incorrectly detected as MPEG2, but with correct channel names.
Sub, did you get a chance to look into this?

A clean install of v3.8.3 didn't help my tuning problem :-(

Using a Terratec Cinergy HTC USB XS tuner I can get all channels, as H264, and with correct channel names. (Although I have to increase ScanCollectionMS in the config-file.
But using a HDhomerun Expand I am unable to get the channel names in the range 538 to 578 MHz?

Attached are log- and mon.txt-files doing a single frequency (570MHz, QAM256) scan with each device.
Despite the only difference being the device, I notice different things being logged, like "discovered key=" vs. "lcn key="?

Leading me to another question:
What are the recommended settings in HDhomerun Setup utility for "BDA Compatibility Mode" and "Virtual Channel Table mode"?

For the 'BDA Compatibility Mode' try anything other than NextPVR or Windows Media Center. ie, try default or MediaPortal (neither of which the cause the HDHR to do PID filtering).

What options does it give you for "virtual channel table mode"?

I am using the HDhomerun software/driver dated 20150826 with my HDHomeRun Expand (EU-model with 4 * DVB-C tuners).

For the BDA Compatibility Mode I can choose between:
"Default", "Easy HDTV DVR", "For The Record", "J River Media Center", "MediaPortal", "NextPVR" and "Windows Media Center".

For the Virtual Channel Table mode I can choose between:
"Auto", "Normal", "Block", "Inject TVCT" and "Inject CVCT".

Think I've tried all BDA Compatibility Modes by now, but still get Unknown channel names.

What do you have the virtual channel table set to?

Experimenting with it right now. It used to be "Auto" (which is default), but using "Inject CVCT" changes the result, so instead of Unknown H264-channels, the channels are now detected with their channel names, but strangely the names are truncated to 7 characters, and the channels are now MPEG2. Confused? I am :-)

These are really options for North American cable users, where often there is no channel names included broadcast, so it's used to insert a block of data with the channel names etc.

My thinking was maybe whatever option you've got selected is overriding the names in the stream. I'd expect maybe 'Normal' is the correct setting for DVB, which hopefully means "don't inject names"? Maybe 'auto' is the same as 'normal' in DVB countries.

I discovered a newer HDhomerun beta-software, and installed NPVR from today (160929), tried different settings in HDhomerun Config, but nothing helps :-(
I am able to setup working channels, by scanning again and again, editing channel names from "unknown" to their real names, etc.
So with this I can watch live TV. Next problem is then EPG update: For the frequencies where NPVR can't find the channelnames by normal scan, I don't get any EPG.
I _guess_ that maybe NPVR matches EPG data based on channels names, so I dont get any data because I've changed the names from unknown to real names?
If correct, is there a way to tell NPVR to match EPG and channels using tuning information like frequency/SID?
