I had to make a fresh install from scratch of 09211, then make basic plugin settings, etc, then restore my GBPVR.mdb, then upgrade to 09310. Took me a while, but it works now

I still have the very same problem....

Unable to install the latest version, i had .NET1.1 with SP1 already loaded (no Betas), with the same errors.

With the best will in the would this software is GREAT but i cant install it so its no good....

First aimed at the developer, what version of .NET do you have and is it an end user runtime with no other versions installed? What version of MDAC do you have as i was the one who found you needed MDAC v2.6 on 2000 for this thing to work? What version of windows have you upgraded it on? I am on 2000 (and will never use XP).

I am still on 2000 and now it wont install, do we need a newer version os MDAC on here again???

Many Thanks
Ashley

After the failed install (and a restart which showed the install to fully have failed as it was asking for the MSI then after a few blue lines going across the screen it then rolled back and basiclly had a "fail, but i dont know why" error.

I then did the install with the "MSIEXEC /a" method, which did work but that only seems to copy all off the files over and doesnt install them.... As its a Admin install "hence the /a"

Then running the CONFIG showed that the REDSKY folder was empty with an error "cant find preview file" in a way that looked bad.

Restored that folder with a restore showed then the EXE file to run but never show the desktop so then from CONFIG shanged to BLUE profile and was then ok.

It now appears to be working (with NO REDSKY profile which is the one the Girlfriend prefered). Still testing BUT this isnt good, i really would like someone in the development area to complain at Microsoft about this, if it wasnt for INSTALLER then .NET to screw this up in a way i bet other installers like "WISE" i wouldnt there wouldnt be a problem.

Another Microsoft take over the planet then crash all the time. No wonder BMW dumped them.

It would appear to put a really bad light on software which has nothing wrong with its design, just Windows and its so many problems and never any fixes with no one knowing how it works or even where its problems are, Microsoft have enough money here so "error log" reposrting should be done buy the ones being paid to at Microsoft.

As a user i would get UK £20.00 for every bug i found on the Atari STE back in late 80s, i only ever found ONE and that turned out to be a bad ROM IC (got the money though).

Many Thanks

Suppose you guys with the install problems have tried switching of your Antivirus/firewall/antispyware ?
The install did trigger MS antispyware, but continued after allowing the recording service to install. See anti spyware log below.

Windows Service (c:\program files\devnz\gbpvr\gbpvrrecordingservice.exe) has been granted permission to be installed. This program is in the user's allowed Windows services list.

About Windows Services: A Windows service is a process or set of processes that adds functionality to Windows by providing support to other programs. Windows services can run without any user interaction and load when the computer starts prior to a user logging in.

All Antivirus here was disabled as i always do (that will stop MS Office installing). It stops some of the keys installing, i might test again when a newer version is out as dont want to rock the boat yet.

Many Thanks

I'm running Windows XP MCE 2005 with Service Pack 2, I run automatic updates so I have ALL the security updates. I'm running .NET 1.1 SP1 with hotfixes. I have no Antivirus OR AntiSpyware or Anti Anything on My Lounge PC and its VERY clean. I really haven't installed Much on it appart from WinDVD and PowerDVD and GBPVR.

The pc it does work on is Windows XP Pro SP2 with All updates again and it does run Antivirus but no antispyware (Anyspyware is maintained by Non-stupid user who keeps upto date and knows how to say no). I don't have any recording sources on this pc I just point the My Videos to the recordings folder on my lounge pc so I can play a recording from the Office via the lan while working. Does anyone out there know how to make the DOTNETINSTALLER bit of the install log verbosely as its in here that it fails and the Windows Installer logging doesn't seem to pin it down.

Sub - The failed section in question - can you tell us what its doing? If its installing the Recording service does it actually do it when its an upgrade install? Mine fails whether its a fresh install (Remove all trace of GBPVR and try it) or an inplace upgrade over 09211 so its something that happens at the DOTNETINSTALL part regardless of update or fresh - what can you tell us about what its doing here sub to help us look in the right direction at differences in our systems??

REALLY like to get to the bottom of this - I will do a fresh OS install if completely forced to but at present I'm happy enough to live with 09211 version but sooner or later I'm sure there will be something I really want to get in a newer release and as everthing else is running SOOOOO smoothly on this system and it took me a while to get it this way I don't want to have to start again particularly.

See screen shot below. I dont know what happens behind the scenes, as its all hidden from me.

All I did (about year ago) was drag the GBPVRRecordingService into the list of files distributed.

None of these setting have changed in a very long time.

I really hope you guys get to the bottom of it to. I havn't personally been looking into this problem.

Ok I just uninstalled .NET 1.1 and the hotfix. I then deleted MSCOREE.DLL and Deleted everything in the MICROSOFT.NET folder under the windows folder. Rebooted and installed DOTNETFX.EXE version 1.1 and still EXACTLY the same problem. Maybe it has nothing to do with .NET but the logs SEEM to indicate thats the problem. I've checked permissions in the registry to the CurrentControlSet\Services part and to all files in the GBPVR directory. I've tried 3 different logons to the pc all of whom have Admin rights. Anyone got any other ideas....... I'm comming close to a rebuild from Scratch.

My gut says its still .NET problems as I'm running Media Center Edition 2005 which installs .NET as part of the install process so I can't seem to TOTALLY uninstall it but I could be completely wrong.

This will probably not fix the issue, but could help reveal the cause. You can disable the Rollback of any MSI-based installation. Call "msiexec /I GBPVR09310.msi DISABLEROLLBACK=1". "Unfortunately" I don't have the install problem myself so can't try it here.
