I have installed Get_iplayer but on accessing it I get an error message suggesting firewall problems.

Log attached. Any help would be much appreciated.

Brian

I'm pretty sure this is not a firewall problem, it looks to me like the secutity priveledges for the service are not sufficient. You may want to check in the service properties and give the service a username/password to log in with.

I've looked back through this topic and seen some people have the same error message as I, but none of the issues raised to fix those problems seem applicable to my install. Looking through my iPlayerServiceMessenger.log file I seem to be getting programmes downloaded but always the download fails ? Can anyone point me in the right direction as I'm losing what remains of my hair with this problem !
Logs attached here:

The download seems to be failing in the getiplayer script. Couple of things to try. Firstly, I would enable the auto update capability to make sure you are using the latest version of the getiplayer perl script. Secondly I would try to watch the identical show using the iplayer website and see if it is watchable. Many ISP's now are traffic shaping Iplayer so heavily that it is impossible to use. The GetIplayer script will retry a number of times but eventually timeout giving the error. You could also try the download first thing in the morning and see if it sucessfully downloads.

Ok, I have enabled the automatic update of Perl script in config and still no joy. I can watch anything at any time of the day using the BBC iPlayer site - when I first tried though (after you advised I do so) the BBC site indicated I had to have a later version of Flash player - duly updated and could then watch anything from the site. Still no joy through Get iPlayer plugin though. Sad Is there anything else I might try ?

There's an issue with the latest version of FLVstreamer. If you get "exit code 1 (256)" then you should get an older version of FLVstreamer. I find 1.8i is fine.

No, I get an Exitcode 9 when I'm running the plugin. I can successfully run the Web PVR manager from the (get iPlayer) start menu, and every download succeeds, but as soon as I try from within GBPVR, I get the same failure message. I'm getting partial .flv's created but never finish ???

This is very strange:confused:. The plugin uses the standard perl get iplayer script which should be downloading fully, if you could identify the settings that the web pvr manager uses that might help in the debugging. However, Attach you latest logs and I'll have a look.

There is one longshot and that is running the getiplayer script with --flush to flush the pvr cache.

Thanks for your suggestions and help Smiler. I'm at work at the moment so will do as you suggest when I get home.

It seems that peak-hours shaping is becoming more widespread and much more limiting so it'd be really, really good if there were a Config option to delay all download/conversion activity until a user-specified time.

If the queue could be kicked-off in the early hours then it would make a number of us even happier with this invaluable plug-in and may reduce the incidence of certain problems cropping up here.

If this "scheduled download" option were activated then perhaps some users might suggest an option in the plug-in's GUI to download either now or else per the schedule - but if they weren't experiencing problems with peak-time downloads then they probably wouldn't have activated the Config option anyway. I guess there may be a few who don't have traffic-shaping problems but have a peak-only quota so downloading off-peak would be their norm but the odd "do it now" would be desired. They are probably few in number (and possibly becoming fewer as traffic-shaping becomes more prevalent) so I'm not sure that a GUI option is worth the effort on your part or even that it's really necessary at all.

There'd be no need to update the GUI with progress of downloading or transcoding of scheduled items - but that wouldn't be any change from what now happens if an MVP is turned off after an item has been selected for download.

I recognise that splitting-out this part of the processing for batch-treatment could be problematic but I reckon it would make a really big difference. Could it be that part of the work has already been done when you split the downloading/transcoding away from reliance on the MVP running PVRX2?

Thanks.

I'll certainly add it to the wish list there certainly is some support already, it will be a matter of ensuring that the schdule works as expected for all cases. I'll certainly have a think about it.Wink
