It is with no small amount of trepidation that I create a support thread for the Anime Library plugin. Or maybe it will be wholly bug free and I'll be able to spend the next month sipping pina coladas. And getting caught in the rain.

Or maybe not.

Bugs? Questions? Comments? Post 'em here. Be gentle.

Note to all users of Anime Library: AniDB announced a downtime for Saturday February 09, lasting several hours.

New AniDB lookups will fail with a "Service not available" message while they are down. Playback of existing files will be fine, but voting / watched indicators will not work either.

Quote:The next AniDB update is coming up.
Due to some required DB changes the update process might take half a day or so.

The update is scheduled for Saturday 2008-02-09.

So expect a downtime of multiple hours.
... and TONS of new random features Tongue

Hey man, long time no see!!

I´ve been busy here, but found some time to test your plugin. Looks like every bug from the past is fixed now. The last version is working 100% here without big problems.

But I just found a small issue that´s worth of mention:

When I reboot my system without Internet Connection, PVRX2 just won´t start, I CAN see it in task manager, but it´s simply stalled. After looking the logs I´m pretty sure the problem is with Anime Library. It looks like AnimeLibrary tries to find Anidb and the system can´t deal with the "host name not found error".

If I kill the "undead" PVRX2 process, connect to the Internet and start PVRX2 again, it´ll work fine even after I disconnect from the Internet but only until the next "Unconnected" Reboot.

If, after the reboot I connect to the Internet before starting PVRX2, it also works fine.

Attached the relevant log:

It is -- I actually fixed that a couple days ago when my own Internet went out. I'm reasonably confident that I've already posted the fix but will check when I get home. Sorry!

Sorry, I downloaded it from the wiki and the current version is 1.0.6.0. I´m using is 1.0.4.0.

Looking at it, that should be the one that fixes the lockup on no Internet. But please poke me if you have more troubles.

Right now I'm in the process of branching the project in source control, which is a new experience for me and source of great emotional pain. It also means that my "create new install!" script is broken so I can't send a new version up 'just in case'. Bleh.

Let me know how it goes!

Thanks for the post! Your problems are more likely a reflection of my inability to write proper documentation than it is you doing something wrong, so bear with me a bit.

The general path (and something I really need to edit into the wiki):
  • Ensure you've set yourself up with an AniDB account. It needs that to log into the AniDB servers and retrieve the raw data. That's entered into tab two in Config.
  • Enter the root anime folders (it sounds to me like you've already done this).
  • Ensure "Title View" is checked on tab one of config.
  • Run the AniScan.exe -- you'll (hopefully) find a shortcut to it under "Third Party" with your GBPVR Start menu entries.

The last step can take quite a while, especially on the first run, depending on the size of your library. The program needs to create a hash of each file, then connect to the AnidB server to get the details.

If you have a large library, be patient. It will finish eventually. But the first time through can be a bit of an adventure. You should see titles and episodes appearing in the plugin as it goes along though.

That should get you going. If not, we'll have to dig deeper to find out where things are going wrong, and if there is something I need to do to fix it.

Hey,
I just got around to checking out your plugin... I have not used it yet, other than the configuration parts. the scan completed, but there still seems to be a large number of requests to anidb waiting.
I scanned 978 files, and when the scan was over, there were still 650+ anidb requests waiting. I have no connection problems, do you have to throttle your requests heavily to comply with their API? There is about 30 seconds between requests.

Once I use the rest of your plugin I will let you know what I think about it.
