astradtn Wrote:I never expected this many responses. Clearly my original post had a lot of misguided anger, but in my defense, I have searched the forums for each of the problems, and have found topics about them, which had no meaningful solution. I believe it is overall bad to not search for the answer first. Why should I ask the same question again, if it wasn't solved the first time?

I had a machine that was sluggish, recording did not always work and it was a bit unstable. But then I had a lot of software installed on it, it also worked as a print server for my local network. Bad idea.

I did the following.

Exported the freq. settings from the registry.
In registryeditor right click on HKEY:LOCAL:MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\TV System Services\TVAutoTune and select export.

Save the registry setting on an external hard disk.

Copied xmltv and xmltv software to an external harddisk.

Reformat and reinstall windows xp.
Apply all updates.
Install dot net 2.
Install pvr hardware.
Install hauppauge drivers.
Import TVAutoTune registry settings.
Copy xmltv settings and software to formatted harddisk.
Install GBPVR.
Setup GBPVR.

I had problems when running different Hauppauge cards at the same time, maybe the drivers conflict.

My machine now runs very very smooth without any problems.

Do not install any other software, it might conflict...

Hope it works for you too…Smile

Just to add in here to be constructive, you mention that there is no support for older versions; I use the system restore functionallity built into XP quite extensively for testing. I can perform changes and test various bits and bobs by creating a restore point first, then restoring to it if I don't like the changes.

I always place a restore point to older GBPVR versions before upgrading (no offence intended!), that way I can roll back if the WAF factor drops too low, before the bugs are (usually very promptly) addressed by sub.

Keep up the excellent work sub!

Superb responses everybody! What a damn clever and damn nice group of GBPVR users there are. With users like you guys I am sure sub is not going to get upset (I hope!!) by the original poster.

NB Wonder when his logs show up????

Just to chime in, I absolutely find this software to be top notch and the community we have here even better. Heck even my girlfriends thinks it's fantastic, and that's saying something. I guess I wanted to post this more to give some praise when you get to log into the board everyday Sub and questions and jabs at your labor of love.

I think the people onboard this project are here for the same reason Sub started this, to learn.

We all love to 'get under the hood' and know how things work, and its probably why the community is as respectful as it is.

I think it is testament to the community that threads like this are so out of character, why would you winge about something that is so well built, open to requests and free!

As a stark comparison, ive been playing Battlefield 2142 from EA. It costs plenty, crashes to desktop or logs out of online games frequently for most players, and no acknowledgment is given to these problems; yet this company reportedly turns over hundreds of millions of dollars a year... kudos to Sub, thanks mate.

I've been using gbpvr for nearly 2 years now and everyone that comes to our house and sees it is gobsmacked... especially when they see that we can watch recorded tv, videos, home movies, listen to music throughout the house (I can even watch and listen when I'm working in the garage).

Worth bearing in mind that pre-gbpvr, it was:

- sit through mind-numbing commercials 20 mins every hour...
- and still nothing to watch...
- have to record onto dvd-rw to watch in the living room...
- or even vhs (shudder)...
- then forget to record stuff...
- Ferret around in the shelves to find a cd to play - for 40 mins, then repeat...
- Plug the camcorder into the tv to watch our home movies...

etc, etc, etc. Changed our lives.

Thanks sub, for all the work and support and ongoing development. And a shout out to the plugin developers, skin designers, and everyone on the boards that keep me clicking 'new posts'.

I think we all know: this whole project is about improving WAF in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. We are all just hoping and waiting for the pay off.Big Grin

But how many girlfriends has haxorboy got?? Do they all watch at the same time or separately? Just curious.
