Avermedia M780 QAM

Is the M780 the AVerTV Combo PCIe card shown here?

I was looking at getting one of these, but just wanted to make sure it is the same card. Or should I stick with Hauppauge and get the HVR-1800?

That is the M780 with a MCE remote. You can also get it white box.

I had the HVR-1800 in my system for a while, but I could never get it to tune anything on the digital side of the card. The analog side worked fine. I'm doing a RMA for my HVR-1800. You might have better luck with it than me if you go that route.

Another option is the ATI PCIe Combo. It will be retail in a couple weeks. It's supposed to do ClearQAM. I did find these as refurbished replacement parts for Dell XPS systems here http://accessories.dell.com/sna/productd...sisid=8242

I think some other software on your machine is holding on to the device, so not usable from GB-PVR.

And on the AVer Media program the three 1080i channels i get looks amazing. Amd the 720s do too. But i want them in GBPVR since that software is a pile of ****.

It still looks like something is using the device.

Does the Aver Media Center software run something in the background that could be using the device? or are you running on MCE?

The basic TV program I first installed is AVer TV. It runs a program called AVer Quick on startup. Keep in mind, it still allows me to see analog just fine. The AVer Media Center hasn't added anything to my startup, I verified that with Spybot.

I closed the AVer Quick program, and it still doesn't find channels. I disabled it in Spybot, I will try again on restart.

I don't mean to intrude, but I might be able help. One thing I have noticed with the M780 that can be annoying is the card, or maybe its the AverTV programs, do get "hung." I've noticed this more than a few times. Check the task manager and see if there are any AverTV6 or MediaCenter processes running in the background, even after you have exited from them. I also noticed that the card will sometimes "lock up." A symptom of this will be the tuner will display a blue-green screen, rather than tune any channels. To fix this, reboot, or even better go into the device manager and disable the M780 devices (don't uninstall), then re-enable the device.

Sorry, I'm not really sure. I dont really know anything about the M780 other than whats mentioned in this thread.

I disabled the Aver Quick startup, and restarted, didnt open anything except GBPVR config.exe and scanned again... no luck... attached is a screenshot of my taskmanager's open handles.
