Sorry, GB-PVR knows nothing about vobsub so doesnt have any keys to control it.

Maybe in a future release though.

Thanks sub, thought you might say that. Does anyone know if vobsub has keyboard shortcuts? Quick google didn't find anything helpful on this.

Just digging into this a bit more, it looks like the latest version vsfilter doesn't have any controls itself. Where it is used in other playback software eg zoom player, it looks like the player itself calls the subtitles/options.

Hence I think we're relying on sub to implement something here!

Sub,

Did a bit more investigating into this tonight on an mkv file with several different languages.

Zoom player looks like it's somehow pulling the available subtitle streams either from vobsub or the haali splitter. Then in its filter menu it allows you to switch between them. The only way I've discovered to control which is selected within graphedit is to play about with the 3 letter language codes eng, jpy, rus and so on. You can input the preferred language/subtitle within the splitter setup and it will then pick the first one on the list.

Not sure if this is how zoomplayer is doing it though, perhaps there's another way to access the streams within vobsub?

Have you had a chance to look into this at all?

I have NO idea how all of this jazz works, but my guess is that it it just pulling all of the information from the graph, since players seems to have that information available to them (GB-PVR can print the entire graph that it uses). and then it just manipulates it, probably through some api call.
given this webpage it seems possible Smile

Having just spent a whole afternoon trying out various ideas on this, I thought I'd report back on progress in case anyone else is interested.

FFDShow can be used instead of vobsub/vsfilter to control subtitles (switching on and off at least, not sure about switching between different sets of subtitles). By selecting ffdshow post processing in the gb-pvr config, and selecting activate subtitles and keyboard shortcuts in ffdshow video config, you can use keyboard shortcuts from within GB-PVR to turn on/off subtitles.

So far so good, but where I've got totally stumped is why ffdshow refuses to respond to my hauppauge remote. Despite setting up irremote.ini to map a button to a keypress, for some reason this virtual keypress never gets picked up by ffdshow.

Anyone, the above might help someone else and if anyone has any ideas on my latter problem, I'm all ears!

probably not working because PVRX2 has exclusive control over the screen... does it work with the physical keyboard?

Another few hours and I figured it out. The keyboard was working fine to control it even with GB-PVR in FSE mode (since ffdshow is inserting itself into the video stream before the renderer). Required me to install an app called eventghost, which has a separate mode for ffdshow control. Even then I needed to edit the xml files it creates to get it all working. I can post more details if anyone else is interested in trying to do this.

Next I need to figure out how to control it when where is more than one subtitle stream!
