Good news that the problem is pinned down at least.
Is the riser card one of those that plugs into a single PCI slot, but gives more than one socket for PCI devices??. I've never understood how these work properly (maybe they don't!!).

Yes. did that last night.... basically either Nova500T in my dev machine results in a cracking picture with no issues....

in the Silverstone riser ... either card jumps and skips all over the place....

Well it's a little smarter (open for debate) than that. The two slots the riser plug into an existing motherboard PCI slot, with a little daughter card which is cabled up to plug into the a second slot....

( Hang on I'll see if I can find the picture... )

so basically It should present the slots correctly but I think it's just not able to use one data bus on a single slot for two card actions....

I seem to be full of little thoughts today... must be something I ate...

You'll have tried the t-500 in both slots on the riser, but have you tried not connecting the daughter card - possibilites might be:

a. riser doesn't work at all
b. only one slot on the riser works
c. both slots on the riser work

If b. or c. it might be worth trying the t-500 again

Hum..... I'd only tried the Top (directly attached slot rather than the second slot

There is mileage in trying both slots.... I might get lucky....

The riser works since the PVR350 is recording successfully... so it's more likely to be an implementation issue rather the a faulty riser....

I'm still wondering 'why the little daughter board' - the last time I saw a riser, it was just a single board...

are you definitely sure I can't tempt you to quickly try the PCI latency tool before you go and speak to silverstone?

http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/Hau...-T_500_PCI

PCI Performance

When used in a dual-PCI riser configuration (see above), playback performance may suffer when used in conjunction with a PCI video card (e.g. NVIDIA FX5200 PCI). To fix this, increase the PCI latency of the video card to 0xFF, and the Nova-T to 0x40, enable MTRR write-combining for the video card memory, and use real-time threads for smooth video playback in MythTV. If using an nvidia card, in nvidia-settings switch off all XV v-blank sync options and switch on OpenGL vblank sync'ing. In MythTV, enable OpenGL vblank sync and real-time threading.

The Hauppauge board seems to be down. I found the ScanBDA tool here:

http://www.quantexzone.com/

I am setting up a new system and am having issues with the Nova T 500 but only in that it does not seem to be as sensitive as the original Nova T.

The ScanBDA tool has highlighted coax cable issues on my setup which seem to be the cause of my skipping jumping issues.
