"MusicLibrary2: Generating a random playlist of 1000 length"

But if there are fewer in the database I guess ML2 doesn't try and do repeats.

Martin

Only cos thats the maximum I stuck in the numeric up down control - how big do you want it??

Also if you went into the config.xml you could set it to whatever you liked. It will be in the <settings/MusicLibrary/RandomMinutes> key...

Hey martin, while I've got you here....is there any way of running mvpmc or mvpmcx2 via vmware or something like that?? Do you know if anyone has figure out a way of doing it...It would be good for me to be able to do this before I get my hands on one...

Well one of the reasons I wanted to have one forum was to discuss topics like this. I am going to be testing the incremental update speed up on mvpmc and Jon Gettler is making my PCH screen handling code generic for both the PCH and any linux system that supports DirectFB. Emulating the PCH player will be tough especially as I hope to use more native methods of doing this.

Creating the two day playlist of 860 songs wasn't too bad at all and the gap is still less then on the mvp.

Code:
2008-03-29 17:09:19.150    VERBOSE    [6]    MusicLibrary2: Query returned 1440
2008-03-29 17:09:19.150    VERBOSE    [6]    MusicLibrary2: Generating a random playlist of 2880 length

It be good to see regular linux version on mvpmcx2 with DirectFB. I'm pretty sure you could replace mono with mplayer on the PC pretty easily. It would certainly be useful for testing. It'd also give users options for simple linux PC based clients.

Replacing mono with mplayer would be great and I don't foresee too many challenges beyond having a user having to build it with the customizations required for emulation mode, I expect near mvpmc functionality.

When I told psycik that it would be tough I meant emulating the PCH playlist play method since that is not going to be how I use mplayer.

I've googled for mplayer and see that it's a full multimedia player. Could you try to explain why it's difficult to use this for videos on the PCH in stead of mono? I'm just being curious, always trying to learn new stuff.

I am not talking about replacing mono with mplayer on the PCH, but I am considering using it in with linux ports.

I theory mplayer could be compiled for the PCH but someone would need an intimate knowledge of how DirectFB is working to take advantage of the needed hardware acceleration. In reality the PCH has the CPU power of a router and no hardware floating point so as just a software based mplayer would not be meaningful as a player.

psycik Wrote:Martin, you could try this patch to queue file the same way sub does (for the first random)...

psycik, I've been using this patch for a while now and it is doing exactly what I want for jukebox mode so thank you. Do you think this is going to be how you do it from here on in?

One thing I noticed is it does seem to create a Last Played.m3u in the c: root directory but I have the field for this blank.

Yea i think I went through and updated to use the Queue collection like sub does.

Ok, I'll have a look at that last played thing...

So how does the NMT "look" while playing music, does ML2 give the playlist to NMT and then NMT takes over the playing? Ie do you loose the ML2 view of things with the Album art etc?

While the music plays, the NMT still takes control and all the album art and everything else disappears. However I use ML2 primarily for jukebox mode with the TV turned off anyway. The ID3 tag does show up and the playlist is pretty easy and fast to navigate.
