I would make sure you have the timestamp issue first. Not everyone has the issue. Again, less is more. You have really done your homework and have seen all the potential issues, but in this case, don't fix it until you know it is broke. Good luck.

Update . . . success, mostly!

I got GBPVR loaded up and configured. Really only one installation issue - somehow when I signed up for schedules direct I didn't choose a lineup so when GBPVR called in it didn't have anything to download so it gave me an error.

I am getting some choppy video during high motion, especially on DVD. PowerDVD is better, but it's still does it. I'm sure that's a video driver setting or something as I know many others run this board in SD with no issues and I should have plenty of processor and memory for what I'm doing.

A couple things though . . .

*) Having no channel numbers, just channel descriptions, in the channel guide is kind of a pain - any way to add the channel numbers easily?

*) I'm using the remote that came with my PVR-150. It came with an usb ir receiver/blaster and has 44 buttons by my count. It works but most of the buttons don't do anything. The channel button doesn't work but if you use the upper up/down/left/right buttons the up/down changes the channel and the left right adjusts the volume. The DVD menu button doesn't work either and that's kinda unhandy. Any easy fix or is there a preferred remote I should pick up?

*) When I change channels I get a quick channel id and program description . . . is there any way to pull that info back up later? My cable box does that and if you press a button you can get it again and if you press the right arrow you can see what's coming up . . . that's darn handy, is there a similar function in GBPVR? Also, my cable box can pull up a full screen channel guide but keeps the audio going so you can keep up with the program while you're looking at the guide. It will also do a half screen guide, any similar functions in GBPVR?

I made a quick recording last night and it worked fine. I especially like the program description being kept with the recording!

So far so good! Just some tweaking to do and then hookup to the TV!

Thanks for all the great help guys! It's much appreciated!

OH, I see . . . I need to run a program called HIP to get the remote working correctly. Though the wiki says to develop our own remote definition file for HIP, I'm kinda short of time the next couple days . . . would anyone care to spot me a file?

Thanks!

The PVR150 has it's own remote software. There is an .ini file you can edit to control any application you like. I had mine control everything from a web browser to Sage and Meedio.

Or yes you can use HIP, or my favorite EvenGhost.

As far as the choppy video with DVD, what codecs are you using? Open the task manager as you play back the video and see what kinda CPU usage you have.

In the GBPVR config program, on the DVD&Remote tab, click on Fix Hauppauge 45 button remote. This will insert the GBPVR and PVRX2 commands into the Hauppauge irremote.ini file located in the Windows folder. You need to stop and restart the irremote program to activate the changes. Also, make sure you have the Default (Hauppauge) remote selected on the same tab. For a PVR150, the Hauppuage remote works just fine.

The blue button on the remote brings up the info for the currently playing program. In live TV there is a mini-guide, but I don't use it so don't remember how to get it. Just push buttons and see what happens!

Hi Kricker,

I'll dig deeper on how to edit the remote's .ini file - thanks for the tip. I gotta get more time to spend on the wiki!

The only codecs would be whatever comes with Windows XP and whatever the PVR-150 software, and CyberLink PowerDVD loaded. I'll try to check a little later and post back.

Watching live tv the video is a little choppy, especially if the video pans across something. I also notice it on CNN with the bottom ticker. I just took a look and it was running around 6% cpu usage so I don't think cpu power is the problem. I'm sure it's just a video driver/codec/whatever problem.

I appreciate the help, I'm sorry to be so sporadic on my efforts. I've been on overtime for weeks and finally got a day off so I'm trying to get a bunch of stuff done so I'm just playing with the htpc while I'm doing some other things so I can't really focus on it for any length of time right now. I was hoping to tonight but it looks like a nasty storm system is going to roll through so I may not get to play tonight either.

Hi Mikeh49,

I tried that patch and it didn't help. I have the Haupaugge MCE remote and according to a note on the wiki it has limited functionality and needs HIP to work right . . . unless the wiki is out of date?

I've been trying to push bottons, but not much has been happening.

I have a new small problem developing . . . the stock cpu fan is getting noisey! Not bad, but enough to annoy me! Looks like a Scythe mini-ninja is on the horizon (from what I read somewhere you can run it fanless in the Antec NSK2400/2480 case so that oughtta quiet it down!)

Well, back to the dog gone honey do list that's gotten a mile long while I've been working.

I'll try to get back to this later tonight . . . thanks for everything guys! This has turned from frustration into fun! Smile

Sounds like the choppy video is definitely a codec issue. In my experience it is hard to get a ticker like on CNN to scroll smoothly. A lot of people had luck with the nvidia decoders, which haven't been updated in years or the Dscaler decoders. Personally I like the one I posted a link to earlier. It has always given me great playback with good quality. I couldn't really tell it apart from the nvidia decoders, and it was more reliable. I use it every day Wink

For the channel number issue, I use the channel logos, these appear in the guide, but from memory when you scroll accross the guide the logos roll off the screen ... i think

There is an option somewhere to display channel number but it looked weird having both, also you can change channels etc from the mini guide which on my remote is the "i" or info button, once again from memory

I use HIP which took awhile to setup but got going in the end with the mce remote
