For whatever reason mine always stays black during the scan. After the scan I use the * to help find the working stations.

You should enter your zip code here to see what to expect.

If its only scanning 68 channels, then it sounds like you chose the ATSC device option instead of the QAM device. This means it'd be expecting an antenna. Try the QAM option instead, which scans for digital cable channels.

alright, my zipcode is 55128 and when i put that in, i get 55126. i assume that's probably okay.

i don't have much come up, but there are some 720p and 1080i channels. i think my football channel is included in those.

technical question though. that is for digital cable. i believe comcast keep advertising that anyone getting comcast is getting digital cable already because if you have comcast then you don't need to worry about this change over that is coming up from analog to digital. does that sound right? i don't need to order something to get digital cable i don't think.

still can't view any of the channels however. gbpvr doesn't find any when it searches 68 channels.

thanks for the continued help guys.

scanning 138 channels now! maybe this will work!

looks like a whole bunch of channels found, but all unknown. i'll have to figure out that all of their numbers mean (11.9, 11.9, 11.10, etc.).

i think you guys are getting me there...!

The names are unknown because the cable operators in the US are not required to transmit this info with their channels, and instead opt to use their own proprietary schemes to transfer the channel names and numbers to their cable boxes. GB-PVR just generates some random channel numbers based on the rf channel number the channels were found on.

Some people get lucky and find their cable operator transmits this info, and they get proper names etc.

i have channels that have come up as ktca-hd etc. but i'm having trouble seeing any of them yet in the preview window. i did have one channel come up, but it seemed to be just random. i'm not sure which one it was. i'm going through them one by one right now and trying to get them to show up in the preview window again.
