Does anyone know where I can purchase one in Canada. They don't seem to be available here yet.

Hauppauge ships to Canada. Their PVR products have become hard to find with traditional online stores.

Thanks Graham,

Just ordered one, hope they‘re not out of stock already.

I have been looking for quite a while for something to replace my 2 original dual HDHomeruns. This would be perfect except for the pending ATSC 3.0 upgrade here in the USA that apparently is coming relatively soon.

Honestly, I don't think it'll be anytime soon.

I think to be very difficult for them to roll out ATSC 3.0. Outside of trial broadcasts, I would be very surprised if you saw this happen in the next 10 years. The reality is that is hundreds of millions of TVs out there that support the existing ATSC broadcasts, and zero that'll support the new ATSC 3.0, and the new standard is not backwards compatible. Very few markets have extra frequencies available that would allow them to be simultaneously broadcasting their existing ATSC 1.0 version one frequency and the new ATSC 3.0 version on a different frequency. They're not going to turn off those existing customers.

By the time this is happening, the bulk of people are likely to have switched to internet streaming for the bulk of their viewing.

This is what I would think, too, but there is someone on the Tivo forums who claims to be an "insider" saying this is going to be very accelerated. They claim that after the pending frequency auction, the channels will be repacked and most of the ATSC 1.0 channels are going to be packed into an existing VHF channel which become very low quality since so many sub-channels will be sharing the same channel. I am in a major market (Washington DC) so it is enough to give me pause to buy a new ATSC 1.0 tuner at this point.

I actually hope it happens sooner, but I suspect it'll be a long time away.

Broadcasters are struggling to get the eyeballs they need - they're not going to hurt their viewer numbers by doing anything like that. It's possible we'll start to see some ATSC 3.0 broadcasts in markets that have spare frequencies are available, but the ATSC 1.0 broadcasts will continue for a long time to come. You'll get years of notice in advance of your existing ATSC hardware becoming obsolete.

how would this work? each broadcast antenna is owned by TV station which is affiliated with a major network (or in the case of some of the major markets, the TV station is actually owned by the network, like KABC in LA or WNBC in new york, etc.). Which TV station is going to agree to broadcast all the other network's signals in low-def on one TV channel so that the rest of them can go to a new standard? This just doesn't seem plausible as described.

(edit: ok, I read a couple of articles about this, and the proposed idea is that in each market the TV stations will all get together and cooperate to upgrade some to ATSC 3.0 while one or more stations stay on ATSC 1.0 and broadcast everybody else's legacy signals. we'll see how well that works; in LA actually it might work a different way, since many of the TV stations have a co-owned or "sister station" they can cooperate with. KCBS & KCAL, KABC & KDOC, KTTV (Fox) & KCOP, KNBC & one of the spanish stations I think, and so on...)

See here: http://www.broadcastingcable.com/news/wa...out/155504

They are suggesting a symbiotic approach to the rollout, with a temporary host broadcaster in a market simulcasting the signals of those broadcasting in 3.0, and one of those 3.0 stations returning the favor by delivering the host station in the new format.
