I ran this intall using /tmp as my working directory, and ended it BEFORE running the dpkg upgrade install due to a significant Warning about running the "systemctl daemon-reload" command that I did not understand.

The word "error" did not appear during installation, but running NextPVR showed "Available Storage" is "0% free - 0.00GB. I don't know why, but generally running in "/tmp" seemed better - see attached Terminal Log.

Again, thanks for all your help.

The install was didn't fail but didn't work because /var/opt/nextopvr must have existed. It don't think think you should have run autoremove that might have broken purge.

Don't worry about that sytemctl warning it is normal. Now I think it is sufficient for you to manually change the recording and live tv buffer directories in NextPVR web. The install failback logic for NextPVR is poor it falls back to Windows folder names.

Do you have typo errors ?  I am not able to follow what you said, and don't know what to do next.  I think your "nextopvr"  should be "nextpvr".
After that, did you mean "existed" or "exited"?

I have attached a log file for "ls -l -recursive /var/opt/nextpvr" command.  It looks ok to me, is there a problem?  I have used the autoremove in previous installs without this happening.  Are you saying there is  a possibility of yet another bug in the "apt" command?

You said: "Now I think it is sufficient for you to manually change the recording and live tv buffer directories in NextPVR web.".  By beginning this sentence with the word "Now", do you mean you fixed the problem and it should "Now" work?

Also, by saying "manually change" do you mean I should use "makedir" command to create these directories on my hard drive.  I have already created these about a week ago and these directories exist on my hard drive: /home/dick/NextPVR/Live_TV_Buffer and /home/dick/NextPVR/Recordings.

All I know to do at this point is to repeat the fresh start install again and not run the "sudo apt autoremove" until everything works some time in the future.

What do you think I should do next?

As I said you have to manually set your recording folder and Live TV folder via the web pages. It is fine to use the folders you created but 22.04 does have some new security nuances because the nextpvr user will no longer have default access to your home folder and you will have to do some more work researching how to set Linux file permissions to set this to the video group. This could in fact be part of the problem (and also with the default location the deb file creates which no longer is available).

The Terminal Log attached shows no errors or other reason for installation failure, and there are no "sudo apt autoremove" commands used.

There is difference at the END of the "sudo apt install ./nextpvr-helper.deb" command on line 3976 where there are missing 9 Lines that I can't tell whether or not they are necessary.  I have added "# comment Lines" that point out the difference of the 9 Lines that are missing.

Below that, starting on Line 4010, I have included the Log for the same "sudo apt install ./nextpvr-helper.deb" command that I copied in from the June 26 Terminal Log, so you can see other differences that I may have missed.

I am using the XFCE4 "mousepad" editor with "Show Line Numbers" turned on to get the Line numbers I have mentioned.

Everything is ok but you didn't need to do those unless you personally wanted to confirm /var/opt/nextpvr was correctly purged and we can only see that if you run NextPVR web.

The "missing" lines are because you didn't do the auto remove step for other apps so they don't need to be setup.

From your log you asked why the hdhomerun-config utility is loaded. The deb file doesn't know you don't have one so it installs it as recommended software. You can remove it manually if you really want too.

That's great, I think I am ready to buy the WinTV_DualHD, except for one loose end about our Post  #33 and #34.  My question is about MANUALLY setting the Recording folder and Live TV folder via the web pages. I said in my Posting #15 exactly what I was doing, and you did not say I was doing it incorrectly.  I have been doing it that way since since I have been saying the "Available Storage" is 0% free - 0.00GB.  My confusion has been with the meaning of the word "manually" via the web pages.

The attached screen shot shows the result of what I have been doing on only one web page which is 127.0.0.1:8866/settings.html#.  The actual directories were setup on my hard drive using the "mkdir" command for "NextPVR/Recordings" and "NextPVR/Live_TV_Buffers".  To  setup those two directory's I did not use the web pages at all.

This is important to me because I checked my "Available Storage" at URL: 127.0.0.1:8866/index.html?t=1656381912 AFTER today's install (June 27) as I have been doing after every other install, and am still getting "0% free - 0.00GB".

As I said, I don't really care about having 0% free memory because I know it is not true, BUT I do care if my last installation is really GOOD enough to proceed with purchasing a TV tuner device and finally record OTA TV channels.  I know there will probably be other problems because Ubuntu has very little testing compared to Debian Stable which I have been using on 4 other computers for too many years.  Age: 77.

I feel it still is a permission issue but I can't confirm without logs.

You are probably right,  Sometimes when I use the Back-Arrow on the browser to get to the "Available Memory" display, and click it too often, I end up at the Login screen.  The two are pretty close to each other.  Lately, it is by-passing the Login screen and the default C:\... Window's defaults storage directories are not over writing my /home/dick/NexPVR.... memory storage entries.

Here is the Log file after very little use.

As I suspected you don't have permissions for that folder

2022-06-27 18:20:16.715 [DEBUG][5] Checking disk space for: /home/dick/NextPVR/Recordings/
2022-06-27 18:20:16.729 [ERROR][5] Unexpected error querying available disk space (/home/dick/NextPVR/Recordings/): System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path is denied.

You either have change to folders that the nextpvr user can access for read/write and directory searches or change the permissions on /home/dick/NextPVR

I do note a log line and sub may have changed some default behavour which I can use in future deb installers that will support newer security in Ubuntu.

2022-06-27 16:41:32.860 [DEBUG][1] Defaulting to: /recordings
