Hi Sub,

Actually I just noted the following entry is present both in unsuccessful AND successful recordings.

07:30:06.108 VERBOSE locked=0 present=0 strength=0 quality=0

I'm still getting the occasional 0kb recorded file - still trying to sort this somehow.

tks

PS. Sub - I should have put a question on the end of this.

* Any other fault finding tips you could offer re the occasional 0kb recorded file problem in light of this?

* Is there some way we could prove to ourselves it is actually a mux issue, versus gbpvr, versus tuner card tuning etc - i.e. at least isolate the problem

Tks

Some drivers dont report signal status information, which appears to be the case with these.

To be honest, I just dont know what is causing this problem for you. I have very little visibility about what is going on inside the drivers, other than what I already write to the logs.

thanks Sub - I really appreciate your responses - I have a few more questions if this is ok:

Given others seem to get this problem I was wondering if it could be worthwhile to put some logic in along the lines:
- start recording
- N seconds after check recorded file is growing
- if NO then try again (X retries)
This way even though you don't have visibility into why, you could do the ultimate black box type check that things are OK.

Q1 - Don't suppose the above would be feasible/easy/possible?

Overall I'm still not sure whether this problem (the root cause I mean) is due to:

(a) tuner hardware - I wonder whether ability to tune/lock to the channel within a specific time period is the issue? (e.g. due to a timeout requirements within drivers or GBPVR)

Q2 - Does GBPVR need to get channel lock within a specifici
number of seconds?

Q3 - If in GBPVR I occasionally (5%) of the time go LIVE TV and
end up with a black screen (i.e. looks like no signal lock) would
this be a pointer to the same root problem? Would this indicate
it is a tuner hardware issue, or could it be a mux problem?

Q4 - Do you know how the various software is called upon during
the start record process? e.g. is it gbpvr -> BDA driver ->
Mux Software etc

(b) BDA drivers

© mux (it seems very sensitive to this, and changing mux's seems to make some difference, however as it doesn't completely fix the situation it makes me think that this is not the ROOT cause in itself?)

Q5 - Could you imagine why the root cause could be a defect
in the mux software itself? (I can't quite myself)

(d) CPU intensity - although again not sure how this would be the root cause

(e) Signal Quality - there are some reports that this has made a difference, however again what would the root cause of the problem be though, the tuner hardware and lock times (see above)

Regards

How about comparing hardware setups as well - are there some mainboard/chipset & pci card combinations that are
prone to this?

I'm not sure, but if there was a way to find out I'd be interested
