Worth bearing in mind that pre-gbpvr, it was:

- sit through mind-numbing commercials 20 mins every hour...
- and still nothing to watch...
- have to record onto dvd-rw to watch in the living room...
- or even vhs (shudder)...
- then forget to record stuff...
- Ferret around in the shelves to find a cd to play - for 40 mins, then repeat...
- Plug the camcorder into the tv to watch our home movies...

etc, etc, etc. Changed our lives.

Thanks sub, for all the work and support and ongoing development. And a shout out to the plugin developers, skin designers, and everyone on the boards that keep me clicking 'new posts'.

I echo the sentiments of support for the forum and for the work done by sub and the plugin developers. This is the first forum or chat room or anything I have ever participated in and I have really learned a lot. I still have a few things I would like to work better but I need to research more before I ask for more help.

This post interests me as it suggests that you can watch the recorded shows on more than 1 TV. Do you need more than 1 pvr-150 or similar card inside the computer? Where would I go to read up on it and what are the key acronyms that are relevant? Is this the client-thing I have seen referred to? What hardware would I need (besides a cord that attached the computer to more than just one TV)?

There are quite a few different ways to do it - for me, I only have one PVR-150 in the gb-pvr computer (keep thinking about getting another one, but the times when I have a conflict requiring recording two shows are far and few between).

So, even though we can only watch/ record one channel at a time, that's enough for us and I have gbpvr set up like so:

- In the den on the pc monitor.
- On the living room tv via a MVP client (that's the client thing; you can read more on the wiki or at the hauppauge website)
- In the master bedroom tv upstairs on another MVP
- In the garage on the ftp/fax server monitor via running another instance of gbpvr in client mode.

I'm planning on getting a dedicated pc for under the tv (after the planned lcd hdtv upgrade Smile), and then I'll put the spare MVP in the workout room. Easy and cheap. If you look at my sig you'll see I don't have cutting-edge gear by any means, yet it copes with all these different gbpvr configs fine.

Hope this helps.

Like most people here I've spent many hours (10 years ago I started) with HTPC's and if it was easy everyone would have one......

What a pisser - that dude either wanted to press buttons (as my three year old does) or hasn't been around here for long. Luckily the person ain't three years old so I agree with this approach whole heartedly ......

I only got right into GBPVR this year. I have had a few issues (mainly because I play around with it a lot). Have always found fixes for any issues I have had on the forums. I had never heard of it until I worked with a guy in NZ who had a sideline business installing hardware and gbpvr in homes. Now I'm back in the UK I am very pleased with being about to recording 3 freeview channels at once with my two hauppauge cards. Great being about to put downloaded programs on there also and watch on the telly. Smile

As bad as this thread started out, I'm impressed with the high level of rhetoric that followed.

I'm very proud to be involved with this forum. The software itself is uncommonly good, and IMHO it is so because of sub and everyone else's inventive, creative and proactive spirit held together by what I see regularily as deep respect...

Keep up the great work, everyone!!!

Wow, what a poorly placed "s" huh...I was just bragging to her how I got my STB to work with the "computer part" and jumped on here to say thanks, see my error and now explaining to her that she is the one and only...oh man, sometimes I just can't win huh?

That said, cheers again to this program sub, I still can't believe the reaction people get when they come over and see just how the program works.

To anyone that says it's too complicated, go buy off the shelf software and install and go..this product doesn't have a staff of software engy's behind it, millions of dollars in R&D and a multiple computer lab with all the latest and greatest. It's one guy going over and above with a group of folks who have assisted in making the program that much better. I have had my problems getting things working here and there, but always get an answer, quickly mind you, when I ask a question..and as you can see, it's a fun community to share in when you enter into itWink
