Nah, come on - you cant say that. I wasnt just looking for an excuse. I was doubting there was a problem, but still took it seriously and investigated. I took time to develop a patch to capture screenshots, and carefully compared them to previous screenshots.

Every release I get both positive and negative comments based on perception, even though there is nothing to it. This thread is an example of a negative, which I've been unable to find any concrete details. A positive example I often see is things like "this release is so much faster than the last release", even though I know its exactly the same speed as the previous release.

I'm still happy to investigate it further if someone can clearly show me somethat is worse than before.

A screenshot for sub, TV via a digi-cam with community skin:

The blue skin looks fine on my TV via MVP.

If the blue skin looks fine, then its most likely just related to the fonts etc being used by that skin rather than a problem with GB-PVR.

I think it is the change from 5 items to 7 on the menu, our minds tell us that something is wrong but we can't quite resolve it. I thought there was something wrong at first too until I noticed the additional items on the menu.

Yep, we can't say you didn't try, sub.

I used the mvp screen position plugin - mine was pretty much OK, anyway.
I changed the mvp config 16x9 to true and output to 2 (s-vid) then had another look. It looked good!! So I changed everything back to original and it looked exactly the same - good!!

I'm wondering if, at least in my case, it is an ambient brightness issue. Today is heavily overcast so quite dark. At night it is OK, too. In the sunny daytime the highlighted item is just not so bright.

Maybe it is proof of the presence of mass hysteria over the ether? Or, maybe, sub is using quantum theory to change our pixels by magicSmile Or, maybe, we are just wasting sub's time?

sub, I should have smiled when I said that. I know how difficult it is to troubleshoot, and I was being light hearted to ease things up a bit knowing that this was a 'negative' report. In fact mostly I'm always light hearted. This is my hobby too. Indeed I was upset the other day. And sorry for venting -- that was inappropriate redirection of the flack I received.

I have since realized what the problem was. She has her Contrast way up and the old large CRT bleeds the black into the whites causing the characters to get mulched. I suspect that changing the characters from white to light grey or grey on white or change the black to a dark blue will help.

Her old skin looked better because it was a different colour combination.

I also suspect that the mvpmc plays with brightness and contrast a bit and that's why it looked better...

I used to ask 'why?' Now I just reinstall...

Mike

That could be it for me too, it sort of leaped out at me (plus the taller fonts) ... still need to check tonight.

OK here's my screenies.

First two are via MVP, last one is via PCH-A100 (Still need to do a screen position change on that one, can you do it on one w/o affecting the other btw?).

Anyway, wrt THIS topic, I think I know why it affects me, I'm a stickler for proportion. The fonts do still seem bigger to me, more squared off, but the biggest thing is the Gap. The gap between the selected item (in this case TV Guide is much bigger to XRecord below it than it is to Settings above it). So there you have it, irrefutable proof that the eye doesn't lie :-)

k.

The plugin SkipTool would probably be better off as Skiptool too I think, the T sort of looks out of whack... big gaps, whereas the "i" is all scrunched up between k and p.
