Psycik, I saw your post on the NMT forums and I am a bit confused what you are asking for and from whom.

I can easily give you a version of mvpmcx2 today that gives you back control but If you wanted to get the name of the current file, sub would need to provide it somehow and not Syabas or me. To see control returned with Net Radio use the --no-nmt-gui command line option, I works very well with MLPanel.

The problem with this is documented elsewhere and it is related the HDMI. To put the problem in the simplest terms you are asking for mvpmcx2 to acquire HDMI video but not the HDMI audio and I have asked Syabas if this is going to be possible.

To use your term - In simplest terms I'm wanting the PCH while using the gbpvr interface to play music like the MVP does. With ML2 is all it's album arted glory, scrobbling and randomness.

So in terms of where the disconnect lies, be it, on the syabas end, mvpmcx2 end or gbpvr, I don't really know or understand.. I conclude it must be on the syabas end, cos it currently works with the mvp with mvpmc and gbpvr.

Theoretically I already know what the track name is is, but it is also something that is normally communicated back to plugins via the gbpvr IEventNotification...

Here's my post explaining that mvpmcx2 is not the mvp and that it may never be

Martin, with this way of running Net Radio, does MLPanel show the name of the currently playing song?

Current but relative to the buffer size of the mono player. It can be several seconds or more ahead depending on the bit rate. I think of it like a coming attractions.

The "several seconds or more ahead" behaviour is exactly the same on the MVP or PC. The fact that MLPanel can display Now Playing info at all indicates that an IEventNotification Event is being triggered. Is there a simple way to explain "who does what" to make that happen?

I am guessing that the mvpmode PVRx2.exe would have to get an notification from the "PCHServe" component of the recording service as audio plays through the recording socket which completely changes the MVP logic. Normally the MVP streams directly from PVRx2.exe but there is no way for mvpmcx2 to do this with the PCH without a hard disk, and the annoying 8+ second gaps between songs.

Given the fact that so many people use HDMI for audio the question becomes is it worth the effort?

I dont think that method is worth investing any time in. I'd rather ask Syabas for an alternative method to playback a song in the background. There is has been enough requests from other NMT forum users for the PCH UI to remain usable while audio plays in the background that hopefully they'll do something about it...

So the PCH would play music in the background and something if the foreground can be used for display?? Be it a screen saver or gbpvr?? Is that what you're thinking?

Sorry Martin, but I think I've missed something...

For Net Radio, MLPanel gets its now playing info from IEventNotification Events.
So, on the PCH, if MLPanel displays now playing, the notification must be happening...
