Ok, the audio works on one of my machines but not the other. I'll mess with it in a few days.

I installed the haali splitter, copied in the patch & made the config.xml change - when I tried to play the file, it kicked me right out. I backed out the patch & it didn't kick me out, but all I got was a blank screen. When I reversed the config.xml change, I was back to where I started. Am I missing something? Should I have rebooted after installing the splitter?

Does the file play for you in Window Media Player? If the haali media splitter and your machine default decoders are doing their job, then it should play in WMP, and should play in GB-PVR with the same decoders (ie, system defaults).

Ok, so I'm going to be the guy with the dumb questions...(not like I haven't asked enough)
This box will basically just act as a client exactly in the same way the current MVP's work, but will it seem to run GBPVR and live TV any faster than the existing MediaMVP's? Reactions? Better than using a popcorn or the HD Extender from SageTV?

jpete1019 Wrote:Ok, so I'm going to be the guy with the dumb questions...(not like I haven't asked enough)Sorry, you're way off. Its not a client device. This is capture device for recording video. It can record high definition video from a set top box using the component video connection, allowing people to record their premium channels in high definition. Instead of recording MPEG2 files, it records H264 files (MPEG4), which is a more advanced codec with high compression rates. These guys are trying to play a sample file created with this device.

Windows media player craps out on it after two seconds. The Haali tray icon shows up when I load the file into WMP. I even changed the system default from nVidia to Arcsoft, but it was no different. Oddly enough, when I attempt to play in VLC (after Haali was installed), I get garbage for video - top of the screen is gray & bottom flashes green), but I can hear the sound. I've attached the log from my last attempt - This run is with Haali installed, UseBuiltInTSReader set to false & the DLL patch in place. The main reason I'd like to get this working is that I also want to be able to stream these recordings to my MVP in the bedroom (obviously they'd be downscaled). I assume the server needs to be able to play the files to transcode them for the MVP - is this correct?

The transcoding does not use Directshow filters. That said.... there is zero chance you'd be able to play these files on the MVP. Your machine wouldnt be able to transcode these files in the required 'faster than realtime'. You would be able to play them on a PCH client, but not an MVP client. If you just want to watch them on your MVP, you might as well just capture the standard definition output form your cable box using your PVR500.

As for the MVP, how would that work? If I recorded the same show on the HD channel using HD-PVR & in SD using the PVR-500, would GB-PVR be able to list both in the recordings list since they are the same name & the same time?

If you were wanting to play them on a PCH instead, then that would be a decent reason for wanting to use an HD-PVR.

I have an HDTV in my family room & a SD set in the bedroom. So I guess if I want to watch a show in both places, I'd need to record one show on each tuner. Given that there are SD & HD versions of the same stations, I'd be able to do this as long as GB-PVR would be able to differentiate between two shows with the same title at the same time of day but on different stations. Actually, it just occured to me that I can test this out with my current setup since we have two NBC affiliates in our area. i can schedule the same show at the same time on channels 4 & 10 & see if it works - UPDATE: never mind this probably wouldn't work since the 500 would record two identically named files since both would be mpg files - in the case of 500 vs HD-PVR, it could be possible since one show would be <recording name>.mpg & the other would be <recording name>.ts
