First two are via MVP, last one is via PCH-A100 (Still need to do a screen position change on that one, can you do it on one w/o affecting the other btw?).

Anyway, wrt THIS topic, I think I know why it affects me, I'm a stickler for proportion. The fonts do still seem bigger to me, more squared off, but the biggest thing is the Gap. The gap between the selected item (in this case TV Guide is much bigger to XRecord below it than it is to Settings above it). So there you have it, irrefutable proof that the eye doesn't lie :-)

k.

The plugin SkipTool would probably be better off as Skiptool too I think, the T sort of looks out of whack... big gaps, whereas the "i" is all scrunched up between k and p.

My observations are not quite the same but may be related.

I watch on a monitor - there are no televisions or MVPs involved.

It appeared to me that the selected menu item was larger in 1.2.9 than in the previous release. It appears that the selected menu item is twice as tall as those above and below. My recollection is that in the previous release, the selected item was 1.5 (ish) times the height of those above and below.

This prompted me to fiddle with skin2\blue\menu\skin.xml.

I did not find a value that affects the size of the selected item relative to those above and below. Is this hardcoded?

Also, I changed the alpha value in this line:

<Placement name="MenuButtonOrigin" loc="55,23" scrollDuration="0.25" itemCount="7" withInsetX="75" offset="6.5" rightShift="true" alpha="500"/>

After my fiddling, I have an odd situation. A value of 500 gives me a menu that is bright and date (at top) and a description (at bottom) are faint. Changing the alpha to 300 gives me a menu that is faint and date (at top) and a description (at bottom) are bright.

I have not changed the alpha values in:

<Placement name="SelectedTaskDescription" loc="10,85" alpha="150"/>
<Placement name="TaskImage" loc="10,25" alpha="90"/>
<Placement name="CurrentTime" loc="10,4" alpha="150"/>

Have I done something odd or is PVRX2 doing something odd?

Thanks

Graham

The PCH screen is clearly showing the mismatch between the screen size of the monitor and the software configuration

Add --display=720x480 to your command line in startmeup and then find out what the settings are in MVP Position.

With the exception of the middle/selected item in the menu, the fonts havnt changed. They still the same typeface and size. There is more off them though, and because of this they're also closer to each other. The two menu items either side of the selected item are a bit brighter too because of where they are in relation to the gradient fade.

I made the selected item bigger in this release because it was harder to spot which item was selected when there were seven items close together on the menu.

On blues menu the transition animation is smooth as one slides into place of the other.

Some of the community skins have the new selected item pop into place and then everything moving smoothy. What's the tag that does that?

I found the 7 item menu to bother me as well, so changed it to 5 items per sub's direction earlier in the thread and I like it much better, i.e., same as it was before. I think the perceived gap difference mentioned by jksmurf was the problem for me.

Anyway, thanks sub for telling us how to change this.

Maybe I didn't describe my perception very well but your explanation above could very well be what caused me to think there was a change. It was just the centre selected item that I perceived to be 'weaker'. It being bigger, with brighter items above and below, could be the answer. Maybe my TV has added more black pixels to get the size increase???

Sub, just so I don't think I'm going crazy, are you saying the gap between the selected item and the one below it is not actually bigger (than above the selected item), it just looks that way due to gradient fade? :confused:

No, I wasnt saying that. You're right - the gap above/below the selected item isnt the same size. My discussion here has pretty much been focusing on ensuring the fonts werent blocky, which seemed to be the early focus of the thread.
