So, on the PCH, if MLPanel displays now playing, the notification must be happening...

GB-PVR only nows the current song with net radio when listening to music on the PCH. It doesnt know the current song when you play a pile of audio files from the Music Library or ML2 etc.

There is has been enough requests from other NMT forum users for the PCH UI to remain usable while audio plays in the background that hopefully they'll do something about it...
So the PCH would play music in the background and something if the foreground can be used for display?? Be it a screen saver or gbpvr?? Is that what you're thinking?
At the moment when you try to play an audio file mvpmcx2 runs the 'mono' command line player, which takes over the screen and displays its own information while it plays. I'm just hoping for some alternative player, or a special command like "-noGUI" that could passed to mono, and it'd just play the music file and not present any user interface. With command line player that did that, we'd be able to have the GB-PVR ui while music is playing. You'd then be able to do your cover art etc.

(If we got that far, then I'd address the other problem mentioned about GB-PVR not know what song is playing. Its not a biggy, but not worth addressing until we can achieve this type of background audio)

Thanks, that's what I had missed...:o

That's actually a steep request because of the need for the HDMI mixer. Syabas says that mono and mvpmcx2 are incompatible at the SDK level.

We can live in hope though. You never know, maybe they'll give us a library call we can use in our own process to do the music ourselves...

Either way, I'm generally happy with it as is, so I'm not too concerned. It'd be nice to have, but I can live with it as it is now.

Neither do I. GBPVR with Music Library and with ML2 provide several nice improvement over the PCH in letting you listen to your music. The problem is "looking" at your music, which I never understood anyway.

I think you only understand it when it suddenly happens one day, Even though I'd built all the support in ML2 for Album art and stuff, I never really used it......until winamp (the player I use at work) started displaying it.

Then it seems to take on a whole new dimension, its hard to explain but it's quite cool to see the album cover when a song is playing as some covers are really good pictures.

I'm with psycik on this one - it goes all the way back to the Dansette record player - the cover of the album on the turntable was always propped up against the lid in full view.

For me it's only important if I want to put the PCH in the lounge instead of in the bedroom where is will be replacing the MVP. Then the "server" could be put somewhere else like into a cupboard.

mvallevand Wrote:Psycik, I saw your post on the NMT forums and I am a bit confused what you are asking for and from whom.

I can easily give you a version of mvpmcx2 today that gives you back control but If you wanted to get the name of the current file, sub would need to provide it somehow and not Syabas or me. To see control returned with Net Radio use the --no-nmt-gui command line option, I works very well with MLPanel.

The problem with this is documented elsewhere and it is related the HDMI. To put the problem in the simplest terms you are asking for mvpmcx2 to acquire HDMI video but not the HDMI audio and I have asked Syabas if this is going to be possible.

Martin

Martin, would I lose anything if I used that version of mvpmcx2? My big issue with the current playback screen is that I have a plasma and I'd rather not burn the tub of popcorn into my screen...
