Would one of you mind posting your PVRx2*.log files after viewing live tv on the device? I cannot get it to work and I think it's because I have a missing filter.

NM: After an device uninstal/reinstall I got it working.

I called Hauppauge tech support. Understandably, they haven't gotten many calls since the device has only been in people's hands since friday but I tried to describe all the things I have tried to narrow it down to the HD-PVR and he took my name, number, and some info about my setup (motherboard, CPU, video card, operating system, cable provider and STB model for sure, maybe also that i have an avermedia m780 installed as well) and he is going to talk to the engineers tomorrow about how they want to start troubleshooting this.

It would make sense if it was a heat-related issue because i have (qualitatively) noticed that it lasts longer before failing after its been off for a while and right now its not ni the best position. but since i am not going to use its built in IR receiver i might as well move it somewhere else.

Do you happen to have a DVD player with component outputs you cuold try it on? that is one question he asked me but my only DVD player broke and i replaced it with this HTPC.

also, maybe you might want to call in now to give them some more info. tech support is open until 6:30.

Mine's quitting on me now too. I'll call them tomorrow.

Even though this is frustrating, this sort of thing is expected for early adopters I guess.

I'm going to call in to. Hopefully it's something that can be fixed with a driver update.

From a pure troubleshooting standpoint (since I don't have one) have you tried:
Placing it on it's side?
Putting a small fan next to it?
Unplugging other USB devices? (printers, HDDs, etc)

The pictures don't show much ventilation. Maybe marketing overrode engineering with the cases and removed the ugly vent holes?

Interestingly, I only have the problem when using the HD-PVR to change channels on the STB. If I don't use the channel changer, I don't have the problem.

There is another issue using this method though. If I don't use the channel changer, GBPVR doesn't tear down the graph so if I switch to a channel with a different resolution, I lose the picture until I exit TV mode and restart it. I wil try an MCE channel changer and see what happens.

I connected it to a port with no other devices on that USB controller. And I placed it on top of an AC vent. I don't think it's a ventilation issue but a driver issue related to the channel changer. (See above post).

I will say though, there are NO ventilation holes on the device.

Hmmm... you guys are getting farther along than I am. Mine only records zero byte files.

My install isn't working properly though. The drivers seem to install fine but whenever I get to the Hauppauge apps under /CDSetup on the CD, it fails telling me "WinTV board not found: drivers may need to be installed."

It shows up in my device manager though and gb-pvr seemed to recognize it. No errors in the logs either. Unfortunately 0 byte files though. Sad Gonna have to investigate.

I will also play around with the IR blaster. I should be able to use the one on my MCE IR receiver as well, or even firewire.

The only things I installed were the drivers, the two IR programs and the WinTV scheduler. The scheduler had to be installed for the IR software to work or I would get missing OCX errors. Interestingly, I could uninstall the scheduler afterwards and the IR continued to work (except for the freezing issue).

I did have to run HWClear because of a bad first install but then it worked after a reinstall.

I'm interested in seeing if your results are the same.
