One thing to keep in mind guys, is that support for this plugin is going to be minimal at best. I am just a skinning guy, and I know how to get legacy plugins to work. Beyond that....nothing.

I will also make an installer for this, so it should have what it takes to make things run "out of the box".

Mixman, if you wish to skin this version of the plugin for Mayhem3, I can send you the plugin, just let me know.

I did a complete re-install of things just to see if I could figure out what was going on with those weird charaters. I got nothing so far. After the new install it works just fine here, no weird charaters at all. I'm of course a little confused.

Thanks for emailing it to me, but that file did not make a difference, so I am going to remove it since you dont need it either.

I am trying this on my client, with music stored on my GBPVR Server second drive D:

I dont think my Directory structure is anything weird... for example

D:\My Music\Hard Rock\AC-DC\1975 - High Voltage

I did some more digging around in my library (about 30,000 files) within the plugin, and I am finding that there are some that display correctly. Probably many more.

I am thinking its simply the file tagging now.

Can you recommend a free automatic tagging software that I can "run and forget" (too nice to be inside today here) and it fetches the proper tagging info for my collection? EDIT again: I am going to try MP3Tag

EDIT: I wanted to add... The ones that have the weird characters don't display the image of the CD jacket, the ones that display correctly are in the ones that the text is correct. Dont know if that gives any clues. See last edit below Smile

Edit to the EDIT. I also noticed that even though a CD jacket image is in the folder, it wont display either. Hmmm EDIT EDIT EDIT Needs "folder.jpg" file.

To get images to display they either need to be named "folder.jpg" and in the appropriate album directory or you can also use embedded cover art. that shows just fine as well.

Tag editors, well there are so many. I ended up using one called MP3Tag, I have no idea if they even make it anymore, but there are tons of them to choose from.

I have been using MP3Tag now, and everything is still weird characters, like chinese maybe. The folder.jpg's are working though.

It's very weird. It's got to be a tag problem, I'm just not sure where. When I put that mp3 you sent me in my directory it did the same thing as yours did, but it only did it for one file, not all of them.

Is it possible that you're using an odd or MS disallowed character in a directory?

If you want, send me one of the files your still having trouble with and let me give it a more in depth look.

That makes sense, its my file that has the problem, not yours, and it isn't corrupting your files. Must be the file itself.

That would mean you have the same odd or MS disallowed character, I would think.

Ok, its on the way! Thanks!

I had a look a two of Snooze's mp3s - one which had the problem and one which didn't. I was able to recreate the problem with Jukebox2.

Both files had ID3v1.1 and ID3v2.x tags - neither had embedded album art.
Both files played fine with the default Music Library and Music Library2.
Both files correctly displayed tag info with Music Library2 and MLPanel (both of which use Interfaces.dll to retrieve the tags).
I looked at both files with various tag editors and couldn't see anything unusual - I then had a look in hex with Notepad++ and noticed a lot of spurious "00"H characters in the tags - I've seen this before in some of my own mp3s, but they were never a problem until I tried them with Jukebox2.

So I did some playing about with the problem file using MP3 Tag Tools and found that if I simply rewrote the tags, the "00"H chars are removed and then the tags are correctly displayed with Jukebox2, so it looks like the problem is to do with the way Jukebox2 reads the tags.

It seems you can only do this one file at a time with MP3 Tag Tools and it doesn't have a CLI. There might be a way of doing this in bulk... I'll have a think about it...

It could very well be, the way Jukebox2 reads tags, and it wouldn't suprise me. It has always needed a little error correction in that area to show some characters that it always had trouble with. It also sounds like a pretty sloppy program that did the tags originally.

I never thought of looking at them in hex, very nice catch!

BTW I use a little program called mp3tag and it will let you do more than one at a time. It makes it pretty easy to at least do a folder at a time. You just need to change something, anything. add a space and then delete it, then save them all.
