Yeah. Just start fresh with a new install. At this point you've spent far longer trying to debug than it would have taken to reinstall or upgrade.

If there's no other reason you need to stay on Windows XP, just go to 7.

If you play any video file (AVI, MKV, DVD) - still no picture?

not even tried since the main think I want is watching and recording a TV from HDHR in bedroom. After recording the "blank screen TV", even VLC is not showing anything on playback.

I am on my forth clean install of NPVR on XP because of finding better computers and because of a hardware failure. I stuck with XP because the hardware is borderline for Vista and it does not support my Wi-Fi card. Each install worked first time and the decoders have been the only problem. It worked with the Cyberlink decoders which came with the TV card but decided to add the ffdshow drivers as people said they were the best but never got NPVR working with them so uninstalled them. I then installed the SAF4.0 drivers but they were unreliable as sometimes I had TV sound but no video or video and no sound and occasionally neither. Changing the decoder in settings and restarting NPVR would cure the problem until the next time I used it. I now only have Cyberlink drivers installed and it is so much more reliable.

Chris, the Cyberlink drivers are the first ones i used without any results
