Disappointing MPEG2 decoding

I've tried all the methods in this thread. GBPVR worked fine until I upgraded from ver. 09310. With the last 2 updates every time I change channels it jumps and looks like a half tuned image for a second before settling down again. Also the first time I watch a channel there is a black screen and garbled audio. I've tried replacing quartz.dll with the one from directx 9.0b, I've tried cyberlink decoders (which have been working fine up 'til now), Mainconcept MPEG decoder, Nvidia decoders, all of them have the exact same result. I've even tried reinstalling GBPVR from scratch instead of upgrading in case the upgrade was causing the problem.

I've also tried each decoder with VMR9 and Overlay. Has anybody got any ideas.

Sounds similar to my residual problem (it has been worse!). I get the channel change disturbance and I get a red screen (mostly) when first starting GBPVR. This red screen goes when I change channel. I am going to start a new thread with this as this thread (stuttering decoder) is somewhat different.

I've been using GBPVR for a few months now. Great software.

So far from what I've read GBPVR doesn't really do the playback itself, it uses the installed codecs. I've tried various codecs. At the moment I'm using Cyberlink. Mpeg decoding just doesn't look great at all through GBPVR, but If I use the Cyberlink player it looks wonderful. I've used the Microsoft app to check which codec is being used as the default and does say Cyberlink.

Any suggestions? Thanks. I'm using a a Win-PVR 150 LP by the way.

Any difference if you choose cyberlink explicitly in the gbpvr config app?

No, no difference. I get little blocks all over the screen during movement, yet it's barely noticable when using the Cyberlink player.

Play the file in Windows Media Player 9 (the one that comes with WinXP, not the old "classic" one) and see if your problem also happens there.

change the interlacing method to "none" from "encoder pass through". It should solve your problem.

I just realized that I installed the new version of this dll unwittingly when I installed a security update recently, and it does seem to fix the stuttering problems that originally started this thread.

On Windows 2000 the hotfix installs a quartz.dll with the following info:

• version 6.5.1.907 (in dxdiag, 6.05.0001.0907)
  
• dated 8/30/2005 09:14:00
  
• file size 1,227,776 bytes
  

I played back some videos that had absolutely horrible playback on directx 9.0C originally and they playback fine. However, having made lots of other system changes since the thread was originally started, it's possible other changes may have some influence too. You mileage may vary, but for me at least in Windows 2000, I'm finally able to go fully to 9.0c.
