Yeah, it still looks like something is using it, or some other similar cause, stopping GB-PVR from being able to access the device.

sslusser Wrote:Okay. I didn't know if anyone had done this yet. It's working for me. I was a little suprised by it.

Here is what I did:

1. Download the Aver Media Center and AverTV 6. QAM will not work without Aver Media Center. I think m780 driver that enables QAM is only in the Aver Media Center.
http://www.aver.com/mpd/support/download...enter.html

2. Then I made the following to allow for the extended QAM tuning and put this into bda.ini.
[AVerMedia M780 (QAM)]
TUNING_TYPE=ATSC
TUNING_SPECIAL=2
FILTER_TUNER=AVerMedia M780 PCIe BDA ATSC Tuner 2
FILTER_CAPTURE=AVerMedia M780 PCIe Digital Video Capture 2
PIN_TUNER_IN=Input0
PIN_TUNER_OUT=MPEG2 Transport
PIN_CAPTURE_IN=Mpeg2 Transport
PIN_CAPTURE_OUT=Mpeg2 Transport

3. I also had to modify the qam.ini to get some of the higher frequency channels.
126=805250,0,125
127=811250,0,126
128=817250,0,127
129=823250,0,128
130=829250,0,129
131=835250,0,130
132=841250,0,131
133=847250,0,132

4. Then I just scanned for channels like any other BDA tuner and the channels showed up.

Hope this helps.

sslusser, I followed your instructions with this card and got it to work perfectly. So you can add me to list of being able to properly tune QAM on GB-PVR with the M780! Smile Here is the link that I used to get the latest drivers & application for the M780: http://www.avermedia.com/EN/default.aspx...&UCN=BAA2E

The only thing is playback seems to be choppy like it's dropping frames. The only encoder I have installed is the nVidia one. Which other encoders out there does anyone have success with getting HD to playback smoothly. My hardware shouldn't be an issue at all: Windows XP Pro SP2, AMD Athlon64 4000+, 1GB PC3200, 8600GT PCI-e video card. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Cool

Great that you got it to work. Does it drop frames in the AverMedia Center or AverTV apps? Those two use overlays. You might have to back down to using overlay if you have been using the VMR9 rendering in GBPVR.

I use the Nvidia Decoder with a 8600 and if I drop frames, its usually due to the signal quality on my cable. I had to invest in a signal amp because of all the splitters. An easy way to check this is if you have a QAM-capable tv with a signal strength indicator.

Motorola makes a really good signal amp if you need one.

Sub, SSlusser,

I have a fresh install of vista and GBPVR. Still wont find any digital channels OTA. Only analog. The Aver software sees both perfect. Logs are attached, could you look again?:confused:

Still the same:
Quote:2007-09-20 21:05:02.520 ERROR Failed to start BDA Graph
2007-09-20 21:05:02.520 VERBOSE ERROR_DEVICE_NOT_CONNECTED
But I noticed something else:
Quote:2007-09-20 21:05:00.356 INFO BDARecorder:::StartRecording(AVerMedia M780, 1, c:\test.mpg, T:2,0,0)
That should say "AverMedia M780 (QAM)"

It looks like you selected the OTA version. Go to the device config and in the dropdown, select the QAM version.

All,

I haven't been around for a little, been sick and over burdened too. Anyhow, MCS and Easy HDTV (info on this http://enigmaindustries.com/easyhdtv/default.htm work perfect with my Avermedia M780, but GBPVR never gets the channels as you have seen in the logs.

I'm convinced its either my particular setup since I've heard of others success, I believe in windows vista business as I have. I did do a clean install of the entire system. And I have tried all options of config for the BDA settings. I am trying to get over the air ATSC signal. I think Whurston was reading I am trying to do QAM. I'm not, I dont know much about it, but the OTA signal here is great, in everything but GBPVR, unfortunately for me since it's clearly the best application.

Any other ideas would be great.

Thanks.

MK,
I recently got a M780 and it works with GBPVR for OTA channels in HD here in Austin.
I attached a few screenshots from the config and the config log file.
My only problem is dropped frames in high action, but I'm using VMR9 and other posts suggest Overlay.

Good luck getting it going

On the choppy display, I see that too. AverMedia is smooth, I'll try overlay.

I see it is using software decoder. Does the M780 not have hardware decoder? If so, how would I enable that under GBPVR?

Thanks
