philly_phenom Wrote:How did you get firewire going? I think I want to look into that, because the blaster is horrible. If the HD-PVR hasn't done anything in a while, it enters the numbers to slow for the first recording which results in the channel not changing. Decreasing the delay didn't help.

BTW - just called Hauppauge - they asked me to record some SD channels to see if it works for that. They weren't sure at this point if its a hardware or driver issue.

My SD recording is still going (set it to CNN Headline News because the program was 2 hours long)

I've made three straight 1 hour + recordings on the 480i channels with no problem. It appears that the issue w/ the HD-PVR quitting is only when recording HD content. At least 1080i anyway. I wonder how it would do if I set the cable box to output 720p...

I'm out of time, so that will have to wait, but I notified Hauppauge of my findings & the rep said he'd pass it on to the engineers.

well that is interesting, ill give it a try tonight as well and see if i notice a difference.
i do have my STB set to output 720p so its not just 1080i

of course, if i wanted to record SD i wouldnt need the HD-PVR.

Very true Smile

I think they just wanted it for debug purposes.

Personally, I can't figure out what the point of the composite & S-video inputs are. If you wanted your premium SD channels, can't you use the S-video input on a PVR-150 or 500? Why shell out $250 for recording NTSC?

The only thing I can think of is if people also wanted to use the box to convert old videos to a digital format? i mean, my m780 also has s-video in and you could always use the rf out on an old vcr but i guess its flexibility?

Complete side note: thisisnotadrill, I noticed that you had a lot of remoting errors in your logs. There should be a fix in the survival thread.

Well, not everything I want to record from my cable system (Cox) is HD. My plan is to feed the cable box into the HD-PVR and do all my cable recording thru it, both HD and SD.

So maybe it would more accurate to say...if I wanted to record only SD I wouldn't need the HD-PVR.

Anyway, mine is supposed to be delivered tomorrow but I probably won't have time to dink with it until Thurs evening. Cox uses Scientific Atlanta boxes in my area (Phoenix)...we'll see if that makes any difference.

Yes yes, I did mean to say if i only wanted to record SD since it was in response to philly_phenom saying the problem was only with HD recordings.

I guess technically I could still have used my m780's svideo input to record SD if I didn't have a HD-PVR, but I do plan on using the HD-PVR for all the main recording and only fall back to the m780's QAM (assuming i can follow directions well enough to get it working) and analog inputs in that rare occasion taht I want to watch a show and record another (so long as one of the shows are on the analog cable or a local HD, of course).

What O/S are you using? I'm asking because I'm curious if you've been succesful in getting your m780 to work. I haven't had any luck using it with Vista Home Premium.

Thanks,
