This sounds really cool now. Just a quick check though, if you have a scheduled recording start whilst your watching the stream will it actually record (i know that if you stream from vlc straight and gbpvr wants to record it cannot due to the device being in use by vlc). This is only if you have a single tuner.

i guess nobody noticed i found a fix for the stuttery live-tv timeshift mode on networked client..works great and low cpu resources too..

hey Sub, any thoughts as to why the gbpvrparser.ax might be having buffer problems? when i unregister it,timeshift mode tv works great, but the ff/rw buttons no longer work, pause does tho Smile [in net client mode]
if we could just find a fix for that, the client would work and i know there's lots of users that would love it! Big Grin
i'm thinking it is using the MS parser when it can't find yours...
any thoughts? any workarounds on the ff/rw thing?
everything else works like a champ...

I have the native gbpvr server/client setup working with one client. I'm looking to add a second.

What happens when you try to watch timeshifted TV on two clients at the same time? What happens if it doesn't work. Since GBPvr is not designed as a server/client I assume it doesn't work, but I have not had a chance to try it. Anyone tried it?

Another question: How many clients can you run before you see performance problems on either the server or client.
GBPVR Server:
AMD Sempron 3300+, 1gb DDR, 100, 200 & 500gb HDDs, DVD -/+RW PVR150 RETAIL, PVR150MCE.
GBPVR 1.0.16, SKIN'S = Default Blue, PLUGIN'S = None

it will handle more than one client just like more than one MVP [they're both really clients] if someone is using the tuner,it will say none are available to watch..last time i tried it didn't let me view the already shifting show from the 'busy' dialog..but watching the file directly works..
you could always just go play the tv buffer file if the other machine is using timeshift mode...but you'd be subject to the other machine's starts/stops of the stream..as far as i know you could probably get 10 machines or more watching a mpg this way if you had the network bandwidth.. Smile

performance depends on what you're doing in gbpvr..
viewing files is relatively speedy..timeshift is hard on the client system..
pics,mp3's,etc will allow lots of simultaneous accesses, just how many depends on many factors...i don't have enough systems connected to try the limits..
i've only used 2 at once and they seemed to be identical to a single machine client as far as speed...i bet 5 would be easy...not sure if would slow down the db access but it shoudn't...tho i'm sure you'll experience slowdowns occasionally when multi- accessing certain resources..

Thanks for the info. Have you tried it with 2 tuners? I just ordered a new PC to use as the server, and I intend to put two tuners in it. I'm hopeing it would just switch to the second tuner but I'll bet it doesn't. As I said before I know Sub didn't really designed it as a PC server/client. Hey, what happens when you have two MPV's trying to watch timeshifted TV from a multi-tuner server?

Each instance of an MVP connects to a separate instance of GBPVR.

When video is streamed to an MVP, an MPG file is created which is played to each MVP.

Don't know how that's going to differ with your scenario?

David.

Only 1 MVP can watch timeshifted live TV per tuner. If you only have 1 tuner and 1 MVP is watching timeshifted live TV, the MVP will get a dialog indicating no tuners available. If 2 tuners are available, each will watch it's own stream of Live TV. If you have 2 tuners and 2 MVP's and 1 tuner is recording, only 1 MVP will be able to watch live TV. Seconds MVP will have the option to watch the recording in progress.

not quite see this thread

http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=13374&page=2

I have 2 issues with the 500 card. very rarely I get very bad mpeg encoding. Looks like the bitrate is set very low. Strange as I always use medium quality.

What really bothers me is not having sound. My 250 cards are setup as tuner 1 and 2, so most my recording is done on those. In cases where I have 3 or 4 simultaneous recordings I sometimes have no sound on the recordings done with the 500. Actually it only happenned once, but it hapenned to be CSI. The wife was not happy.

I often lose sound on live TV. because my 500 is setup last, those tuners are always used for live TV. Usually when a new file is created during an episode switch. In this case I have to go back to the guide and hit watch, sometimes a few times before sound comes back.

It's just hard to find down time on my PVR when I can play with drivers. If it was as simple as just updating it would be done, I just don't have time to experiment right now. Strange thing is I had no problems for about a week after I installed it. Didn't change anything, and out of nowhere I started getting sound issues.

Using GBPVR in Client mode is a "GREAT" assett! It will save me from buying a TV for my daughter's room (and TV stand, and more furniture, etc.)

This all works "great" EXCEPT the Live TV portion.

Whenever I click on Live TV or use the TV Guide to "Watch" a program, I get this error:

"Failed to Locate Configured Capture Device"

Any takers on this one?

THANKS!
Shannon

lif Wrote:Recordings viewing works and also new recordings scheduling using remote clients works! Also, if using only time-shift mode (not live preview) also Live-TV works! And also, for only one client 802.11b is enough to feed one client smoothly (more simultaneous clients will need 802.11g or pre802.11n).Liivo.
