No, it doesnt have a hardware decoder, but I cant think of any modern products that include a hardware decoder so you're not missing out on anything.

It does have a hardware MPEG2 encoder on the analog side, but thats about recording rather than playback.

Nope, with overlay the ALCS is still jerky in the few moments that there is action.

Wih and without timeshift active.

Any other ideas? Smooth in avermediacenter.

yup, I was seeing backwards, you are right, an encoder. That certainly doesn't help.

What else might make it jerky? Should I try anything other than overlay and VMR9 (custom) selections for rendering? I have little idea what these settings do.

PVRX2 is always using the VMR9 Custom renderer, unless you run "PVRX2.exe -fse" then it switches to using the VMR9 Fullscreen Exclusive renderer. The renderer settings in the config app only applied to the older GBPVR.exe user interface.

Trying to diagnose jerkyness problems, it's probably best to first focus on playback of previously completed recordings, rather than live tv or playback of in-progress recordings, since these are much more complex and more things that could go wrongs. Once you get this smooth, then move on to live tv etc.

OK. I'll record some of the game over in Aver, then try playing it back in GB.

I suspect it has to do with the drivers for the Aver card, as not many others are having this issue. I have a 3.0GHz machine, 2GB ram, MCE 2005, not much running on machine yet.

OK, playback of a AverMedia recorded mpeg file still looks somewhat choppy.

This is subtle, but you really notice it when Schilling fires the ball home, and during running. Its like occasional missing frames. But, apparently is the playback, not the TV vcard. Hmm.

Video card is EVGA GeForce 7600GT

Next commercial I'll try palyback within AverMediaCenter.

THanks

Nope. In Aver, the playback is smooth.

So, where do I look in GB?

Thanks for your patience. This application is so much better than Aver, I really want to make it work.

What video decoder do you have selected on the playback tab of the config app, and have you tried running PVRX2.exe with the -fse command line parameter?

It is set for "system default", and I have no idea where to look (control panel?)

Set to VMR9 Custom. Have tried VMR9 Fullscreen Exclusive (set here, not on command line. Is that different?). Also tried Overlay.

When you use the PVRX2 application, it pays no attention to what video renderer you've selected in the config app. That setting was for the old GBPVR.exe application. PVRX2 always uses 'VMR9 Custom' unless your specifiy the "-fse" command line parameter. This is the first thing I'd try.

'system default' is also one of the first things you'd change if you're having playback problems. With this setting Windows effectively picks some random decoder. What other decoders do you have listed as options?
