I haven't even tried under vista32, which is what I am using now. I originally got it working under XP then I ended up just switching to VMC for a bit because its UI was much slicker and the whole thing was easier to set up, but I could never get the QAM workaround working in that and now with the HD-PVR being unsupported in VMC i am back to GB-PVR. my first goal is to get the HD-PVR setup, then I will try the m780.

Thanks, and have fun setting up the HD-PVR. I was spying this thread because I think that will be my next purchase down the road (at least a couple of months away), so I was seeing what kind of success people were having with them.
When you get to setting up the m780 please post your results on my thread here: http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=35710
as I've had no luck setting mine up with GB-PVR on Vista Home Premium (32-bit). It does work fine in VMC with the QAM workaround drivers.

FYI, for those following along. I too find that I can record 480i content. I was only trying 1080i last night, not even thinking to try something of lower resolution, and only got 0 byte files. Lower resolution works though, so at least I know the device is "functional". Hopefully it's a device driver or firmware problem that will be sorted out soon.

I knew it was a gamble ordering one of these so early in it's life cycle given the trouble I had with the PVR-150 drivers. Oh well... if any one finds success, post back.

There are some beta drivers at ftp://ftp.shspvr.com/download/wintv-hdpv...0.3.46.rar

I haven't been able to test them yet but I figured I'd share.

Thanks for the heads up. I tried them but no improvement.

I guess I'm gonna have to start hanging out over at SHS again. I used to back in the old PVR-150 timestamp days, but stopped after they finally fixed those problems. Sheesh... I hope we don't have to wait that long for functional drivers.

I am going about this in a totally unscientific way and just applying new drivers and trying things in a completely willy-nilly manner. bad plan but whatever, im just doing things as i think about them.

It does appear that recording SD content works over long periods of time, however for some reason the video decoding is really messed up and everything is green and you can only barely make out the picture. with all this political news i haven't had a chance to actually let something record and then try to play the file in mpc to see if its just GBPVR or what. for whatever reason, though, its just SD. when i switched to an HD channel the video was perfect, then froze about 1m later.

also, has anyone else actually used the pass-through function? because i actually wanted to watch the speeches tonight instead of simply listening to them I switched over the component pass-through and the quality kind of sucked. there was this little flickering streaking towards the bottom of my screen at least on HD channels. kind of annoying.

i did install the beta drivers so if i notice anything different i will let you guys know.

Something to try (posted by jimwhite on avs):
Quote:5 hours of capture and it was still running BTW, I had it on it's right side, so that the bottom/label was to the left.

I believe the green screen issue is w/ your cable box. I have a DCH3412 (comcast's DVR) as well & I used to have it set to output 1080i & set over-ride to 480p for when playing/recording SD channels). It was fine for a while, but they must have pushed out some firmware update, because recently it started showing green screens when tuning SD channels. When I turned 480 override off, that went away.

Looks like I was right about the freezing being a driver issue related to the channel changer. I can recreate the problem every time by creating a graph in graphedit to watch video through the HD PVR and then running blastcfg and changing the channel. Once I hit the channel change button, it freezes the video while the channel change is occuring. Once the channel change is complete, the video starts for a second or two then freezes permanently until I stop the graph and restart it.

I'll call Hauppage tomorrow with my findings unless someone beats me to it.

Last night i had the box on its side (bottom to the left as well, by chance) and i was able to successfully record two HD programs with an SD program in between.

the video is messed up on the SD recoding (green and really bad in GBPVR, sharp video but a blue hue on mpc-homecinema) so i still have some troubles with my setup but im sre i can figure that out.

more importantly its still touchy during liveTV so I think that blastCFG might just be one thing that triggers it. also, i am not sure i consider putting the box on its side to be an acceptable fix.

also, side question which is just something I probably i screwed up and is an easy fix: Sound records just fine through GBPVR but will not play with live tv. any ideas on what it is?

ps. whurlston, that remoting problem hot fix wouldnt apply to my computer saying the patch was for a different version of the program I have. i'm not quite sure where to go from there.
