I have been trying to research re-install vs reformat with TV Pack. Google was not my friend. Not sure why TV Pack would require a reformat or why reformat would be better. Reformat is usually only advocated when you have hardware problems. Re-install (if it is successful) should get rid of it.

I don't know anyone who tried it and doubt it would work but maybe using system restore would work. We were told the only way to install TVpack into Vista was after a fresh install. However, there are some who simply installed it right over the top and it worked. The instructions we had were pretty up front about the importance of a fresh install before applying the pack.
Maybe someone on The Green Button can help you with info on possibly removing it.

There are documented cases on Green Button about system restore working and not working. My system restore points do not go back far enough to consider that option. I'm doing the prep work in case I loose my data files, and I'm going to try to re-install.

You may be interested in trying the latest WinTV v7. Just recently, it's been updated to work with all HVR cards. They say no analog yet but oddly, that works for me.
I tried in Vista and got no QAM. Went into W7, used the July 2008 drivers (I think that's what's included in the setup install) and got QAM just fine when I could not in GBPVR and WinTV 6. I then switched to the latest pre-release drivers (1/26/09) and could only get analog.
How do they put out updated software that used older drivers? Anyway, there's still a question on whether TVpack breaks QAM for other software.

Was Windows 7 able to correctly use the two digital tuners or the Two analog? Most people reported TV Pack could only use one 2250 tuner for digital and one tuner for analog. When I heard this I didn't even bother trying and kept using GBPVR until QAM recordings turned into a pumpkin for some reason with TV Pack.

I read that the Windows 7 beta will turn into a pumpkin in August so one shouldn't plan on using it except for fun.

Yes W7 does see this tuner (and all hybrid tuners) correctly.

LOL, if only it were true. I'm a beta tester (not using a public beta) and I've been testing Media Center in Vista way after it came out so I think my pumpkin will be around long after Halloween is past. Big Grin

The Beta will stop working on August 1, 2009. To continue using your PC, please be prepared to reinstall a prior version of Windows or a subsequent release of Windows 7 before the expiration date. You won't be able to upgrade from the Beta to the final retail version of Windows 7.

Maybe because you are an official tester your license key never expires. Doesn't sound like something the general public should use except for fun...

Glad to here 2250 works well in Win 7. Kind of confusing why it impacts Win6 and GBPVR...

Well I spent about 4 of the last 12 hours off and on re-installing vista installing all my drivers, codec, thought I had everything working, then I started working on QAM, wintv, and gbpvr.

I almost broke down in tears. I wasn't seeing QAM. Then I realized I had never tested analog, and it wasn't working either. My darn cable wasn't connected to the 2250. Now I'm happily scanning away getting more QAM channels then I want to figure out how to map. Hopefully, I'll be back in business soon. No more TV Pack for me. Who needs Windows 7? GBPVR for ever. I'm trying the new 2250 beta drivers too.

So was the cable disconnected before you reinstalled Vista or was the the lack of TVPack that did it? Either way, glad you made it to the finish line.

I had analog channels before so I assume it was removing TV Pack. I also noticed that my QAM line-up had definitely been moved around. So its something about doing the scan with the 2250 and GBPVR that is inhibited by TV Pack. If you have already completed the mapping TV Pack didn't mess things up.
