In the config app under the "MISC" tab Check your "Live Preview Mode" you cannot have "Use Live Preivew Mode if Possible" checked.

You may want to increase your "Live TV pre-delay" as well. On the Playback tab. I noticed it helped keep my playback smother.

That was 'right on the nose'... I also increased the playback delay as well, but good gosh -- it's choppy (understatment). What do you have under your pre-delay settings?

Thanks!
Shannon

Mine is set at 600ms and seems to work fine, and I'm running a 100mb wired network.

That may be the issue with mine... I'm wired down stairs, but the computer is 'upstairs' where I'm wireless using a Linksys with Speed Booster. I think I'm getting about 60mbs with this setup, but I'm guessing it's just not enough.

I have an MVP player in the living room wired to the computer, and it cooks.... Smile

Tks,
Shannon

That could be an issue too. I think some people have had problems with a networked client and a MVP. Can anyone offer more info on this?

A_Brass:: what do you mean "seems to work fine"?? you mean you got timeshift tv working smoothly? mine only works smoothly if i unreg the gbpvrparser.ax and then i lose ff/rw ability....and curious where you set the delay, client only or server too?
i've noticed something strange about net-timeshift too..it transfers just as many bytes back as it recieves!? wonderin why it transfers exactly the same # of packets back, as usually it's only a fraction... i'm pretty sure this is the cause of the slowdown...
any ideas anyone?
anyone know what asyncflt.ax is for?

well, after finding that network access was severely taxed when viewing this way, i went off to maximize my network's traffic...changed both my network cards to full duplex100, [cuz traffic seems to be both ways equally] and upped my live tv delay time to 10 secs and better but only lasted a little while before chopping up again..so i went over to server machine and set the livetv recording profile down to 3000kbps and Viola! smoothness..... Big Grin Big Grin
this is ok cuz on the server machine i usually use preview mode so won't affect that and 3000 isn't so bad for timeshift tv either...
well,glad i got that fixed..lol..now to make a bootable-live-cd for a diskless PVR...Wink
oh and you MUST use the mapped drives and not use network paths in recording or timeshift directories...using network paths to record even slows down the local machine...[use a high drive letter for your server recording drive letter,so you won't conflict with other client's default drives..i use R:..easy to change in WinXP]
hope that helps some of those like me who have been trying to get this to work for ages!!
[one bad side is probably won't work well over wireless as it saturates even a 100mbit wired net, but lower the livetv recording rate on server and you should be able to make it work..]
recordings can be done at full strength but will be hard to view whilst recording..after they play great Smile

this is so cool...i've been watching sportscenter for an hour and not a pause or anything..even made the timeshift-new-program change fine...Smile
i don't think people realize what this will enable...thin clients and thin remote servers.. [slower machines now possible by splitting up the duties]
like a tiny Epia system acting solely as controller/viewer at the tv set...[they can be almost as small as a mvp but are full featured pc's]
and lower end servers, as they won't need to decode any mpegs for viewing..and transcoding not needed as these clients can decode avi's natively...
will have to try it out on wireless, cuz if that works it rocks!
these clients are higher performance and featured than MVP's [tho i still love mine..lol]
oh and laptop clients! i have a half inch thick laptop that will be the ultimate wireless tv now! lol really wish we could figure out where all the extra net traffic is coming from...i mean it shouldn't need to 'send' data to read an mpeg right?
Sub,any ideas? workarounds?

Is the extra traffic ACK's? Have you looked at it with ethereal or similar?

haven't looked yet but i believe so...any suggestions on a fix?
can i ignore them or filter them out?
i just noticed there were wayyy more than when normally playing a file on the sent side..and then noticed it was 1-for-1 with recieved packets..
[normally only about 10% of recieved]
this is what makes it jumpy...for sure...
any help greatly appreciated..
