Running automatic transcoding manually

Is there a way to run the automatic transcoding by hand? I know that there are threads on setting up mencoder to do this, but I don't mind doing it on the command line if it is indeed possible. I do not, however, want to automatically transcode all of my programs to divx. I only want to transcode my daughter's cartoons.

Can I also run comclean on the recordings by hand and then transcode to divx using the 'built in' transcoding feature?

I've never tried this but you could set your recordings folder to also be one of your video folders. Then you can go into Video Recordings and manually select recordings to transcode.

That's interesting. I was hoping that the transcoding was being handled by a batch file that I could feed the correct options. I'd want to be able to get rid of the big mpeg file and have gbpvr 'see' the divx file from the recordings page.

Is there no way to run this by hand?

When it transcodes a file, it uses the supplied ffmpeg.exe, along with the command line parameters listed in the config.xml. You can manually run this same command from a command prompt, but if you're just wanting to transcode a big MPEG file you've already got, I'd follow stattik's suggestion. Browse to the file in the Video Library, then hit the 'transcode' button, selected your preferred option, and the transcode will begin.

That does sound easier, but will I be able to continue to watch the recordings under the 'recordings' section (or Xrecord)? I know that the automatic transcoding points gbpvr to the new avi file rather than the original mpeg.

Yes, it leaves the original .mpg file in place. You can delete it later if you want.

When run this way, it wont update any recordings or anything like that.
