I have just installed a WinTV Nova-T card in my XP machine and it appears to work with the Hauppauge software, although on occasion the picture quality is very jerky.

I have then I believe installed .NET 1.1 and DirectX 9.0. Then GBPVR and I get a .NET exception error 0x800401F9. Messages on the Internet suggest a MDAC error but this is more related to W2K than XP.

So I checked if .NET had installed correctly and saw it had no record of Mb in the Add/Remove programs. Uninstalled and reinstalled. It showed to be about 20Mb, I seem to recall. Then dutifully applied the update SP1 and it grew to 617MB. Bloatware or what.

I reloaded GBPVR and still get the same error. Not being too techy this is getting a little deep for me.

The details are :

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just in time (JIT) debugging, the config file for this
application or machine (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the machine
rather than being handled by this dialog.

I'd be grateful of any ideas.

It looks like something is broken with MDAC (Microsoft Data Access Components) on your machine, so its probably worth reinstalling it, or installing a newer version. http://msdn.microsoft.com/data/mdac/default.aspx

Thanks for confirming my suspicions.

Yes I agree with you entirely but the problem appears to be I am running XP (not Windows 2000) and MDAC 2.8SP1 is for Win2k or others, not for XP.

When I try to run this update (2.8) I get a message saying This Operating Not supported. This is correct because I am running XP.

How can I force a refresh of MDAC on XP, assuming that is my error?

I'm pretty sure you can, but I cant remember the details. Google should turn up the answer.

Tried again on Google after your comments and found this link

http://www.macropool.com/en/download/repair_mdac.html

It fixed the problem I think, well at the moment it is updating the EPG which it failed to do previously.

Let's see what happens next?
