Fairly useful site, I agree. However, like many of the directory/aggregation sites, it suffers from out of date info, broken links, etc. I notice it still has DW TV listed and this is no longer available (at least in North America, where Deutsche Welle has done a "deal with the devil" and is now broadcasting only on satellite TV - presumably discontinuing its online streams due to "contractual obligations" - and, since I live at the bottom of a canyon, satellite isn't an option for me). Since BBC World also discontinued its free stream in favour of an extortionate fee-based service, it's hard to get any objective world news via internet TV any more, at least here in the US.

BTW - I started another thread: List of useful TV/Radio URLs for use with UbuStream plugin in the General Discussion forum as a place where we can share our favourite internet stations and aggregation sites. So that would be a good place to post this kind of info. I placed a link to my Resources page there which already has WWITV.com listed along with a number of other streaming media directories.

We french are a bit ahead sometimes, and a lot behind someother times. All in all it gives a good average. But, yes, dsl-wise, we are really good (but we can't do good hot dogs for example, and that is a big problem, believe me) . And free, the provider, is top notch !

Anyway, I'll try that , thanks for the help. I need to dig into recording as well, that would be so nice !

I have the UBUStream plugin (with the external recorder) working in both listmode and channel mode. First of all I would like to say great job on the pluggin. But my question is how to stop/pause,etc... the stream using the remote control? Just like it were an actual channel..

In list mode or in channel mode when using GBPVR's Preview mode, you should use the commands supported by the media player you are using to play the stream (since the media player has focus, not GBPVR). If you have a Hauppauge remote, you will need to edit your irremote.ini file as described in the UbuStream plugin wiki page (in the Remote Control section). This file, as distributed by Hauppauge, already contains sections for several releases of Windows Media Player. For other players you have to "roll your own" section in order to have your remote control issue the appropriate commands.

When using UbuSream in channel mode using GBPVR's Timeshift mode or when playing back recordings of streams, GBPVR has focus so you can use the standard GBPVR keystrokes and remote control buttons.

Not all players support pausing a stream. They all support stop and exit however. When using Timeshift mode, pause will always work because GBPVR is playing back a recording.

I did see that note in the wiki about the remote and list mode, but I am mainly concerned with channel mode. But even in channel mode it still brings the mediaplayer in focus over GBPVR. For example I am using your example xml file and I choose the NASA TV channel in channel mode. When I pick that in the guide it then fires up windows media player and begins to watch the stream and then I have no control over it as GBPVR is now in the background. Maybe I have somethign miss configured? Any suggestions?

Yes! It looks like you have a happague remote, correct? With that remote, you can control other programs. In order to do so, you need to edit the irremote.ini file, that is in the windows directory. It basically uses keyboard shortcuts to send commands to the program in focus. You can probably search on this forum for more information about irremote.

If you have a mce remote, someone else will have to help you. I am sure you can configure it, but I don't know how.

Hope this helps!

That's because you have GBPVR set to play live TV in Preview mode. In this mode the media player has focus while it is playing the stream and you will have to set up your remote control to generate the player's commands (as suggested by turkey and as I said in my previous post).

In Timeshift mode, on the other hand, GBPVR has focus and you can use GBPVR remote control commands to stop/pause/etc. However, Windows Media Player does not support recording the stream so cannot be used in Timeshift mode. The NASA stream you are using can also be played using VLC which does support recording (and so can be used for Timeshift mode and for scheduled recordings). Here's an example of setting up UbuStream to record Research TV with VLC. Just replace the Research TV URL with the NASA TV one.

Minor "dot" releases for minor enhancements/bug fixes will continue to trickle out. I'm planning another "major" release within a few weeks, but there's an upcoming GBPVR release which will use .Net2.0 and I'd like to make sure my code will work OK with that first.
