I'm a rather new user to GBPVR but so far I love it. But I've had some problems. GBPVR likes to freeze up and causes me to have to restart my computer.

When it freezes the whole computer stops responding, Ctrl,Alt,Del does nothing and I'm forced to press the restart button on the case.

Now my computer doesn't freeze when I'm running anything else. It only does it when GBPVR is running. Any ideas?

If its freezing the whole computer, this is a pretty sign things are going wrong in the drivers.

I'm using the most recent drivers from Hauppauge, and my drivers for everything else are also up to date. What drivers do you think are causing the problem?

Could be the hauppauge ones, could be your motherboard chipset drivers, could be your video card drivers, coul be something in the specific combination of all of these.

So basicly you're telling me GBPVR won't work for me. Okay well I just got my paycheck I guess I have to go buy SageTV.

No, I'm just saying that if this problem is freezing your machine hard, then the problem will most likely be occurring somewhere inside one of the drivers. It'll most likely be related to the capture card drivers, but could also be the motherboard chipset drivers or possibly the video card drivers.

Sure you can do that. Its quite likely it'll have the same problem though.

Okay I get that, but you aren't offering any solutions. The only thing you've told me is, ahh duh GBPVR won't work on your machine and there's nothing you or anyone else can do about it. Sorry tough shit.

Well all my drivers are up to date now. The Graphics card driver was about a month off but now they're all up to date. Guess what it's still freezes. So now what, do I go through and downgrade all the drivers to older versions?

Whats your problem? I was trying to be helpful by identifying the areas that were the most likely cause of the problem, giving you a pointer to try different versions of the drivers. Do you want me to come around to your house and try different versions of drivers for you, or hold your hand while you do yourself?

Maybe you should look elsewhere for software that meets your needs.

I love it when people forget that sub couldnt care less about whether or not people use his software, and try to threaten him by not using it. But that aside,
What kind of of machine do you have, What kind of of Processor, how much RAM, etc.? An underpowered machine could be the problem.

Updating my Graphics card drivers did nothing, installing older drivers for the graphics card doesn't seem to work either, but I don't exactly have all too many of the previous updates.

I can't downgrade my chipset drivers because doing so causes my whole system to become unstable. VIA seems to be rather slow about releasing updates.

I've had people tell me I should have the most up do date drivers from Hauppauge, but I'll try downgrading them next.

Are you sure it couldn't be the software? Maybe I need to reinstall it? I'll try that next.

I've been trying a 14 day trial version from SageTV for about a week, and I haven't had any problems with it freezing. SageTV is quite impressive but with an 80 dollar price tag I'd much prefer sticking with GBPVR.
