[1st POSTED IN EW Thread but advised to post here in Support]

In WA, I seem to get genre's coming up OK, but it has (LOTS of) multiples of them, both in the drop-down list at the top of the TVGuide and in the Episode Search tab.

Is this by design, or am I missing something or does it only work with Zap2it (which I do not use). It's like my system recognizes genre, but I get assigned the same one for every program in the EPG?

I realised TVXB (my grabber) is using a field called "category", which is probably finding its way into that genre list. I wonder of there is any way of isolating this into SINGLE genre's?

e.g.

[685.starsports.hk]
name=STAR Sports
name=685
icon=http://www.satlogo.com/logo/tv/ss/star_sports.jpg
url=http://www.espnstar.com/tvtimes/tvtimes_searchresults.jsp?sportId=""&countryId=658 371&channelId=660947&startDate=[day=dd-mmm-yyyy]&endDate=[day=dd-mmm-yyyy]
special=ignoreallformatting
extractelement=from=title,to=description,position= 1,start= :
start=2
duration=5
title=4
category=3

I use xmlttv as well, in the Netherlands, my xmltv.xml looks like this:
----------------------------------------------------------
<programme start="20060516130000" stop="20060516131000" channel="1">
<title>NOS-Journaal</title>
<category>Nieuws/actualiteiten</category>
</programme>
<programme start="20060516131000" stop="20060516132000" channel="1">
<title>NOS-Sportjournaal</title>
<category>Sport</category>
</programme>
<programme start="20060516132000" stop="20060516135100" channel="1">
<title>Radar</title>
<desc>Consumentenprogramma met o.a. actuele consumentenonderwerpen, tests en oproepen van kijkers.</desc>
<category>Informatief</category>
<credits>
<presenter>Antoinette Hertsenberg</presenter>
</credits>
</programme>
<programme start="20060516135100" stop="20060516135500" channel="1">
<title>CDA</title>
<category>Informatief</category>
</programme>
<programme start="20060516135500" stop="20060516145000" channel="1">
<title>Villa Felderhof</title>
<desc>Een verrassende combinatie van bekende Nederlanders logeert in een villa aan de Cote dAzur.</desc>
<sub-title>Lucille Werner en Wibi Soerjadi</sub-title>
<category>Amusement</category>
<credits>
<presenter>Rik Felderhof</presenter>
</credits>
</programme>

---------------------------------------------------
So you can see that in my case the genre/category is not coded by a number but by a "normal" name/word.

In your xmltv.xml can you tell if the numbers stand for a certain category:
in this case 3 would be sports
AMD Athlon 64 3000, HDD: 80, 120, 200 GB, Hauppauge 350 + 150, MVP, Asus 6000L Laptop client, Asus X50sl client,
Fritz!box 7140 modem/router, GBPVR 1.3.7.

Yes, it works with the Category field in XMLTV. It should only have one, but there was some bugs in the past, which I think are now gone, that could cause multiple of the same genre to be added to the database.

To clean it up, you can run the following:

GBPVR.exe -removeallgenre

This will delete all the genre related information from the database, effectively starting from clean next time you do an EPG update.

Actually I "think" the category line in TVXB-speak is actually taking the category from the THIRD column off a web page e.g. below.

I am not sure whether it is by accident or design that it fell into the WebAdmin's Genre field, but I shall certainly try sub's suggestion (thanks sub, so many hidden pearls) when I get home this efenink... :-)
