Here, here!

Quote:If routers/dhcp/tftp were the base problem, this would have been a much bigger issue in GBPVR releases prior to 97.x As I said before, all of these little fixes are, in my opinion, addressing the symptom, not the cause, of the problem.

I suspect you are right. My gut feeling is that GB-PVR 97.9 is handling things differently...

I guess the original queston (marcomessina) stated no dhcp server, and using static IPs. IMHO, Static IPs are asking for trouble. Use A DHCP server, whether win2k3 serv, linux, hardware router, whatever...

The MVP does ask for an IP, so something should answer its request...

But this is only a symptom for a problem. Let's sort through it and pass on the suggestion and evidence to 'sub' rather than place band-aids on the gash...

I do a lot of networking, and so I'm reading this thread with interest, though I have no trouble with my current system:

GB-PVR 97.9, on a XP SP2
dongle 3.0.24088
Dlink router
MVP rev H2

The MVP finds the server IP no problem but must reboot three beofre finally seeing GB-PVR interface

It might take a little longer to catch, but afterwards, the interface is much peppier (is that a word?)

Hi all
I seem to have a similar problem.

After a power outage my MVP would not connect to GBPVR 97.09. I tried severlal things, but I think it was a dhcp problem in my switch . As I have two NICs in my GBPVR box and I thought that I would try to use direct connection for the MVP. So I set fixed IP´s for all boxes on the network and dhcpd32 provides IP for the MVP. All IP´s are on the same sub net.

This setup works nice as long as connect the MVP to the switch, but if I try the crossover cable to the other NIC the MVP hangs on the third box on the initial screen. If I enable the Hauppauge services it boots as it should to the normal Hauppauge menu. I can ping the MVP using the crossover cable, with the IP supplied by dhcpd32 (not by Hauppauge services).

Is there any possibility to force GBPVR to use a specific NIC?

Is there any dhcp functionality hidden in Windoz that can mess things up?

dongle 3.0.24088

Well add me to the list of people who upgraded and now can't get the mvp to talk to gb-pvr. gbpvr=0.97.9. Dongle=3.0.24088.
Looks to be the same issue, start the MVP and it hangs 'connecting to server'.
I'll do some experiments when I get a bit of spare time but if anyone has solved
this one, I'd appreciate some pointers.

It may not be valid here but anyway, a note:
When you have had it setup once, it will only connect to the ip that it was setup with. When you had a powerfailure it's possible that your machine got a different ip.

i too had big trouble when upgrading and i use a crossover cable it came down to the version of dongle bin i was using from hauppauge for the initial boot i installed an older version of haup and was able to get that dongle to boot. it doesnt matter anyway because after the inital boot i use the gbmvp dongle. people who are having trouble may want to try and older version of the haup software for the inital boot i had no luck with that newer dongle.

For those users not connecting, can you please run the following command in a command prompt, then post the output?

Code:
ipconfig /all

Here's my ipconfig - I'm running all static on the local network. The MVP is the only one who picks up a DHCP address and that's from the router. I've checked that. It's getting an address properly and the MAC is correct.
When the MVP checked for servers, it correctly identified 192.168.0.4 as the server. The Hauppage software works fine.
When I first started using gvp, I reported a problem with downloading the dongle using gvp. I'm still having to start mvpmediasvc to get the donge. For
some reason (as yet undiagnosed), gBPVR doesn't respond correctly to the UDP requests.
I've read the threads that point the finger at various network components but given the fact that mediamvp works fine, I'm having to point the finger at
GBPVR. I understand that this is a tough one to troubleshoot so if there's anything I can run here that will help, let me know.

Hmm .. now it seems dongle related. Even the hauppage stuff now hangs while trying to connect. The old dongle works fine, even with GB-PVR so I obviously need to have a closer look at my setup .. Something may be borked.
