I just bought a Media MVP, Revision H2.

I too am getting a dark picture with oversaturated reds.

I was using a DSM-520, which had a beautiful picture, but would not fast forward or rewind.

I simply unplugged the DSM-520 and plugged in the Media MVP using the same composite cables. So I know it's not the cables, inputs, or TV settings.

The video files are standard MPEG2 files recorded on a PVR-500MCE.

Is there anyway to work around this problem using a different output (SVHS maybe) or a firmware upgrade? If not, I'll have to return this unit. A shame since the fast forward and rewind actually work.

Tipstir. That is using S-Video Output. I know the Pictures are not the best quality, but the problem is quite real and supported plenty with other posters on this thread.

What puzzles me ist that I can put the same Rev H on another Plasma TV and the picture is great. That is why I think is a combination of the TV and the MVP.

My next step is finding an HDTV UpConverter that converts this signal to HDTV.

Anyone tried this before ?

And so am I.

Funny thing is, if I record a show to mpg with GB-PVR, burn this recording to a DVD, then play the DVD (through my DVD player) while the MVP is playing the original mpg side-by-side on a split screen, I can see a big difference between the two.

The MVP's picture is quite a bit darker (details lost in the blacks, whites not as white) and the reds are much stronger (giving faces a glowing orange look).

Are the MVP playback parameters user-controllable at all??

No, unfortunately they're not.

Quite a while back, I was able to use the Hauppauge Tweaker tool to reach a compromise with MVP display versus PC display. That, along with both my PC and my TVs being able to set the color, tint, brightness, etc., specific to different inputs (on the TV) and different apps (on the PC), I was finally able get something good going. I don't know what I'm going to do if that config (or even just part of it) is ever lost, because it took a lot of tweaking and walking between three different rooms at opposite corners of the hacienda.

GBPVR system info intentionally left blank because I'm personally
insulted that you can't remember it from previous signatures.

I have a H2 that has more saturation then probably should be. It's not that bad for me though I can tell it's quite different side by side with a computer monitor...

I suspect the only way to get control over the MediaMVP saturation and other aspects is some sort of go-between filter like FFDshow, that would de-saturate a picture before it even gets to the MVP.

I have the same problem.... I cant use my MVP (Rev H2) because of it... colors are saturated especially red, and its too dark ... I tried making adjustments in the config.xml MVP settings.. they did nothing at all.. I sent my MVP on to a friend for a bit to see how it works for him...

I have no control over this aspect of the MVP. Hopefully Hauppauge will provide a fix in the near future.

It appears quite a number of MVP owners have had both brightness and colour saturation-related issues. There are some interesting MVP colour findings and a brightness mod on the SHSPVR Forum:

1. Finding, but no solution: Colors are oversaturated, whites have a hue, and the image is too dim.

2. Possible brightness mod (PERFORM AT YOUR OWN RISK!).
If this is the ONLY solution, it's fair to say Hauppauge won't be doing a lot of recalling anytime soon....

according to what I know, or used to know, about video, this mod should help with those affected by moderate saturation problems also. (do not hold me to this...)

what I don't know, is whether a person could install a pot for the resisters, and that it would be easier to adjust...
