Alright marketing gurus, now that GB-PVR is so popular with many users, I suggest we give it a brand name. The software is great, but the name is not (I think I know where Sub came up with it). Every time I am talking to a friend about how great GB-PVR, I get the "GB what?" answer. So I think we need a name that implies the greatness of this software and its author, that will also give an idea of what it does. If it sounds sexy, it would be great for the WAF and her friends.

If Sub agrees, I would like to hold a competition, and the winner gets a prize!

To be honest, I think we'll probably stick with GB-PVR now. Its too well known as this to change it.

I'd be interested in alternatives people come up with, but dont be offended if I decide to just stick with the current name.

I think I remember reading in a magazine that they thought this was an english (i.e. British) software product due to its name... perhaps one reason to drop the GB!

But I agree with Sub, it is well established now, but not always included in reviews with its competitors... which is a bit annoying.

I agree with sub.. it is well known now as GB-PVR, and changing the name now probably isn't the best idea.

Besides, for the amount of time, effort and thought that sub has poured into this project of not only creating it but supporting it as well... he deserves to name it after him self!

I don't have problems with the product name, just a nice name to call what it is. The "Video-Computer thingy" just doesn't work.

I need to get the wife used to calling it a "PVR" or "DVR" - but when explaining to people I've never talked to about it before - it's a "video that's a computer".

Ditto... my wife is still trying to call it "Tivo" as that is what my brother-in-law uses to record TV... She'll pick it up and start using PVR one of these days. Smile

Would the system be any better if it had a 'sexy' name?

Personally, if my wife was the sort of person that had a problem with the name of the software that runs our home media server, I wouldn't have married her. Rolleyes
